summer 2005 dates

We have cruised the past two years in March and have always come back with a sunburn and wonderful weather. I'm not concerned at all about the weather PLUS by March I am so fed up with snow, dull days and shovelling snow I'm ready for it :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

It does look like a lot of pepole want to know what is happening so the problems are:-

Where will it go Carribean or California,

When will it be annouced.

And, can we book it fast enough to be on it, ( and afford it!)

Andrew - that is the big question - with the time of year, possible length of cruise and itinerary - who knows???????

But I've started saving my pennies!!!!

( and afford it!) . . . You are not kidding! I have done some guessing in my mind as to what *I* think the cost might be and it is not a pretty thought! My DH and I really want to go so we have decided to skip any big vacation this summer and 'save' for next year. We'll still do a couple of little trips, but nothing big.

I am also glad I have already paid a $1,000 deposit I can move over to this trip. Anyway, the first person who hears the announcement needs to post ASAP!

The more I think about what the price may be the more I cringe. We definitely want a verandah if we're going to go on this one as I think it will be fantastic sitting on your verandah, having a cold drink, an "All hands on deck" cheese tray and going through the locks of the Panama canal.
Then again maybe Disney is planning to take the Northwest passage to the Pacific :)

Cheers,

Grumbo,

I figured they would go south, around the Cape, in the Southern Hemisphere winter. It would be a good test to see if the ship was ready for Alaska. ;)

Me too.. Me too..

I am waiting!!! Booked onboard at our 3/20 cruise used a bogus date as the CM would not take the July 2005 date..

So I am waiting to find out where the ship will go, when, and $$$

I find all of your comments and views very interesting. If all the views to this thread were miles it would run from London to Florida, possiblly Port Canaveral to Los angeles!

What we all have to do is start posting we are all giving up and booking with Carnival and hopfully some nice person from DCL will think they have overdone it, panic and offer the Summer 2005 cruises now and at a lower price, a game of Call my bluff!

I think however the interest they could see in this thread most likly makes them rub their hands and consider upping the prices!

If they up it too much, they will not be getting my money - But I'm still hopeful of a Panama Canal repositioning cruise. - Mike

Is the Magic small enough to make it through the Panama Canal? I know that the newer, larger cruise ships are too big to actually go through the canal and only the smaller ships actually cruise through.

I'll see if I can do some research on this and find out if it's even a possibility.

Yes, the Magic's dimensions are "PanaMax", meaning it was built to the maximum allowable dimensions to allow transit through the Panama Canal.

Yep, you're absolutely right. It's beam is 106ft.

OPEC announced today it is cutting production by another 1-million barrels a day. That will result in even higher fuel prices (and even higher in California).

If Disney does reposition, its going to be more expensive that most of us expect...

The question is, "What will dictate where the Magic is Summer 2005, nostagia or economics?" I suspect the latter.

CAMICKEY - right-o! If it's too high, they can forget my money!! I spend enough with airfare just getting to Florida (as you know).

GenieDana - another money comment - "economics" will always rule and unless they figure that they will make it up in volume.....well....

Wonder if the 10 night Christmas cruise has filled up? That was a pretty hefty cost for 3 extra nights on the Magic, but again, "Holiday" time, kids out of school and parents subject to the whims of the school board's decision on the school calendar.

Whilst about 80% of DCL educated people think the Magic is off through the Panama Cannal to Disneyland, ( excluding any 1st April jokes) I still think and perosnally hope it will stay in the Carribean.

I have mentioned people the Economics and whilst the timmig is good for DL 50th, the questions are;-

What haapens to the DCL support staff in Florida resorts drivers etc? Do they all move, what about the coaches etc?.

Whilst Port Canaveral is 'rented' it will loose a lot of income for 3 months, and Part of the DCL feeling is going through their own terminal. They would have to use someone elses.

Castaway cay is a firm favorarite and would loose out on 1 in 3 trips per week.

Whilst a lot of people here say they are intersted,, its a risk and Disney wants cash now not extra risk.

I personally think there is still a lot to develop in the carribean, 10 day trips, St luica Jamica Belize Mexico ports, if I had a bet it would be on staying in/out of Florida.

Lastly the website 'implies' that SEVEN DAY CARRIBEAN CRUISES ARE TBA under the rates and dates, not special cruises.

If any DCL staff a reading this for a laugh( see another thread) Make an annoucement soon, you can over do things you know! They raise speculation when they annouce cruise for the start and end of 2005 and not in the middle!

I agree. I think The Magic will stay where it is. I think in order to satisfy repeaters, the islands need to be varied. I know some people will travel the same itinerary over and over. I always do Caribbean cruises, but I do like to visit different islands. It would be nice to see Disney add a 4 port to the eastern. Those that want the enjoyment of staying on board would have less of a crowd and those that want more beach/shopping time would get that. Tortola and Grenada would top my list of add on islands or replacements.

Do you all think we're setting ourselves up for a big disappointment? What if the announced dates are itinerary similar to the special 2004 cruises to Antigua or San Juan? Will you all be happy with that or hugely disappointed?

Personally, that would make me a very happy cruiser :)

I don't think I'd be disappointed even though I would prefer going through the Panama Canal. I'd like to see the Magic have other places on the itinerary.

San Juan is great. We were there when Hurricane Lili diverted our cruise from the Western itinerary. I have always wanted to see Jamaica, so that would be another plus!

Rae

IF it is a reworked Caribbean itinerary we'll stick with our March date. The Panama Canal crossing is the big attraction for us. We have great weather here in August and lots to do here where March is a great time to "getaway".

I'm surprised that they're able to keep this such a secret though. IF they were going to the West coast you'd think there would be rumblings from the ports of calls they'd be hitting as I'm sure arrangements for docking etc would have to be made before the announcement.

Cheers,
Grumbo
