Was refered here from another board... I was wondering what are good places for family of 5 to stay at off of Disney. I think a suite would be great for us. Just looking for some input for future reference. ANd also can you get the dining plan with just tickets or do you have to stay on site for that?

To get the dining plan you'd have to be onsite w/ a package.

As for some a suite-- the Lake Bunea Vista Suites is running a great special and gets some great reviews.

You may also look at renting a house or condo direct from the owner. I would try sites like www.vrbo.com or www.orlandovillas.com .

Also, www.hotelkingdom.com regularly has 1 and 2 bedroom suites in their inventory for some great prices too.

:rotfl: Well we are also a family of 5 and we just came back from a GREAT Christmas trip and stayed at Best Western LBV...I loved it...plenty of room..great prices ..clean..which is my number one priority...and literally 5 min from downtown. We would drive to downtow and use disney transportation...or two days we did use thier hotel transportation and it was great. The restaurants in the hotel are no that good but you are right near a 24 hour store and plenty of restaurants to keep your food cost down so you don't have to eat on property all the time. Perkins was great! If you need anything else PM me and I will be more than happy to help out! Enjoy your trip!! :Pinkbounc

We got a suite through HotelKingdom.com at Cypress Point Grand Villas. It was spacious, near DownTown Disney, and had a nice recreation area. I would recommend it and HotelKingdom.

A few years ago we stayed at Staybridge Suites Lake Buena Vista, and got a 2 BR for I think less than $100...it was decent and right next to the Winn Dixie. Plus, it had free b'fast. I have seen good reports from others about it here too if you search. Not a bad option. We bought DVC for this same reason - to get a 2BR, but if you rented points at Old Key West in the low season you are at $220 at $10/point...

Thanks for all of your input- I am doing some research on these. I am very interested in the DVC but it confuses the crap out of me. I am one of those I will have to beat it to death before it will sink it about the point system ect...

DVC is onsite - I happen to love OKW - been a member since 1993.

but I also love Offsite!!!

try this site

www.skyauction.com
closer to your time - around 2 weeks before (if you can wait). Now that doesn't mean you want find something now.

click on usa/canada - then click on florida

you are looking for timeshares - their ad will said 7 days (not 1-14, 1-7 - but 7 days). Also be sure and read the ad - timeshares will cost you the bid +$195(rci exchange fee) + $15(their fee) = $210 in fees - plus your bid - I have gotten one for $211.

make sure you are register.

then wait until the last minute to bid - be sure to put enough in the autobid section - in case someone bids against you.

if you don't want to bid
www.hotelmartusa.com

or II timeshares
www.condodirect.com

One thing I found with DVC and renting points is that for a family of 5 you need to book one of the larger units, which tend to be alot more points and alot more dollars. I have 3 boys, 2-5-8, and really they could share one bed together. It's all so confusing, I go through this every year when we go down. I thought that the Caribe Royal Suites looked nice. The pool looks like fun and having a 1 bedroom suite would be nice.

skyauction kepts changing on me - now instead of Florida - just do Orlando.

Wyndham Palms has two bedroom units with a big screen t.v., dvd player and leather sectional with full kitchen and dining room table. The master bedroom has a king size bed with an absolutely HUGE master bathroom. The 2nd bedroom has two twin beds and there is a second bathroom next to the kitchen. There is also a screened in porch with table and chairs. Last year we paid $175/night for this room. Right now it seems to be a tad higher than that but I think the rates vary.

The adults can sleep in the master, two kids can sleep in the second bedroom and one child can sleep on the "pull out" bed from the leather sectional.

I gave this room 4 1/2 stars out of 5 in my trip report. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that it is OFFSITE. I am a DVC owner and these rooms are a lot nicer than any of the DVC rooms.
