Suite vs standard room

Hi,

At the end of September, DH and I are planning our first trip to Disneyland with our two small boys (2.5 yrs and 4.5 yrs.) We are planning to stay at the Grand Calif. Hotel and we can’t decide whether or not to book a 1-bedroom suite or a standard room. We’re thinking that with both kids still doing naps and having a bedtime of 7:30, we’re better off having a separate place for them to sleep. At the same time, cost is a medium issue and a suite is twice the price of a standard room.

If cost isn’t the whole issue, are the suites worth it for the extra room to put the kids to bed or do you find that a standard room is just fine because the kids tend to stay up later anyway (with the parade and story time) and us tired parents are happy-as-clams to go to bed when the kids do ;) ?

If you recommend the standard rooms: Are they comfortable for two adults and two kids? Do you recommend a particular room? If I upgraded to a room with a view, do you recommend a “Theme Park View” or “Downtown Disney View” or would you not recommend these with small children because these views are too bright and noisy?

Lastly, if you’re still reading this :) , what do you think of upgrading to a concierge floor. Is this the way to go when traveling with small kids (I’m thinking of the snacks they supply throughout the day as well as the easy check-in) or is this really not worth the money?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Tami

You probably won't get much response to this on the DW theme parks/attractions board.

You will have better luck posting it on the Disneyland board. :)

Welcome to the DIS!!!
I always prefer more room when traveling with the kids, for the very reasons you outlined, nap and bedtimes.
I don't know the Calif hotels, however.
If you decide to upgrade to a suite, be sure it is actually 2 separate rooms. Some hotels call a room with a separate (but same room - no door) seating area, a suite.

When we were at Disneyland with two boys, 7 and 2, we had a standard room and regretted it. I wish we would have sprung for a suite. Since we were within walking distance to DL and CA, we came back to room everyday for 2 year old to take a nap. One of us would have to sit in a dark room with the little one while he slept and the other parent found something to do with the 7-year-old. Also, my kids didn't stay up very late at night. They were exhausted from all the fun during the day. After that trip, we've always booked suites and been MUCH happier! Hope this info helps. Enjoy your trip!
