We have decided, spur of the moment, that we'd like to take a road trip. DH prefers mountains & hiking, I prefer beach & sitting. The map "square" we're willing to travel in is basically Boston, south to Virginia Beach, or going the other way, west to Chicago, south to Kentucky (Does that "square" make sense?). We're starting from Toronto.
We've driven through much of this on the way south to WDW many times, but we're looking for somewhere to go that won't be expensive, but the kids will enjoy (DD12, DD11, DS9). We're not really looking for a theme park as we could just hit Darien Lake.
Any suggestions would be welcomed!! We've stopped at many interesting things in the past: lighthouses, caves, KFC's original restaurant, St. Augustine, air force museum, just to name a few. I'm interested in history stuff, too, that's not too boring for the kids.
If you got this far, thanks!! We want to leave Wed morning, so this is really last minute!
ETA: I'm a compulsive, detailed WDW planner, so flying by the seat of my pants freaks me out.
