Now that my credit House is in order, I am looking into getting a good credit card to work for me. That includes a decent % or cash back incentive. Any suggestions? I have read about the Disney card but not seeing where it really benefits me as I would be locked into using the cash back for only Disney. Would like a little flexibility with that cash.

Any suggestions are appreciated.:thumbsup2

Personally, we have a Capital One (Quiksilver?) that does 1.5% on everything that is pretty good. Chase Freedom is 1% on everything. I just don't recommend Discover, as they only pay like .25% unless you charge a certain amount, and then you can't cash out until you're at $50 and only in increments of $50. Chase Freedom and Capital One aren't as restrictive- I had $555 at Capital One and was able to take out every penny. Chase lets you cash out at $20 and Capital One may be the same.

I have American Express Blue Cash card. It gives you 3% back on groceries, 2% back on gas, 1% on everything else. I love it! We use it for all our living expenses and pay it off each month. There is no annual fee.

^^ This is a good everyday card. For a small annual fee (I think it's 49 bucks?) you can also have the preferred card to get 6% on groceries, up to 6k/yr.

I recommend the Amex Blue Cash Preferred as well. I believe the fee is $75 but the benefits are greater than the annual fee.

That sounds a bit more correct. Also, Amex has amazing customer service. I've called up for my corporate card and they have someone on the phone instantly, never failing to resolve my issue. You do have the slight issue with acceptance, but most places I visit have been taking amex.

Me too. I love Amex blue preferred. I max out the 6% on groceries by buying gift cards at kroger. I use a capital one card with 1.5% cash back on most other purchases.

Amex also has great offers. I've saved $200 using them in the past 6 months. More than makes up for the $75 annual fee.

I'll have to go back and re-read the terms on the preferred card.

Lots of Amex love here! :)

maybe here, but be aware quite a few merchants won't take Amex, so always keep a backup card in your wallet also.... I like trave; reward cards, personally, one of them is Amex branded, and I love to use it, but I'm not always allowed!

I guess it depends on the Discover card. Mine has 5% quarterly categories and 1% on everything else. I mostly use it for the 5% on online shopping at Christmas. Oh and with Shop discover you can get some nice extra cashback deals. They have stores that usually don't offer cashback on other sites (like Ebates) and many stores offer double cashback during holiday shopping.

Thanks for bringing this up OP. I am dropping my US Air card when they announced they are eliminating most of their benefits and I'm also going to get rid of my South West card. The value of the points has really dropped in the past year due to the merger. I think I am going to go with a cash back card now.

The best card I know of is The GM Card (from Capital One).
You get 5% back on all purchases. You use the points toward car purchases. We've saved over $12,000 on four car purchases over the last 15 years.

I wish they had a Honda card like this:)

I too have the blue preferred..got in with the 250 sign-on bonus. Unfortunately their is some downside to the card.
for instance in club purchases from sam's/bj's is not considered grocery.
likewise for target(use red card 5%)/walmart.
Also gas purchase from bj's & stop and shop will not yeild 3% cb

you do have to read the fine print on the Discover cash back program, mine is .25% until I charge $3000 in "my calendar year" and warehouse clubs don't count. I do love Discover when they pay 5% cash back for on line purchases in Oct-December.

Which Discover product do you have? Unless there is some other benefit, I'd ask to do a product change to the Discover IT which has the rotating 5% quarterly categories like the Chase Freedom.

I do get the quarterly 5 % bonuses, the 5% for on line purchases in the last quarter is one of them. I just don't use the card for anything else as I am not getting 1%; it's only .25%.

Did get an offer in the mail from Discover for a $75 bonus if I charge $1500 through 7/31 so everything is now going on the Discover card.

That's the Discover More card. That's why a lot of people switched to the IT when it came out because it does 1% over the .25%. I wish Discover would have just switched everyone to the better version since they have the same benefits otherwise.
