Suggestions for our first night with kids

We aren't staying at Fort Wilderness but our first night at WDW is a Saturday and in September and MK is out because they have Night of Joy going on there. My boys are ages 4 and almost 2. I thought maybe a good first night would be Mickeys BAckyard BBQ or Hoop de doo (never been to either) followed by Campfire and movie or watching fireworks. Maybe a wagon ride or something. Does anyone have any suggestions for us time wise and strategy wise. We will be arriving in the late morning so early evening is when we would be available because of lunch and naps. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mickey's BBQ is only on Thursday and Saturdays. If you go to HDDR you would have to go to the 1st show and catch the campfire program/movie afterwards. I would suggest you do one of the other. Both outings after just arriving IMHO is going to be too much, but that's just my opinion and it's your family. Heck, rent a cart and come early see all the fort has to offer.

Did your kids like it? Did you like it? I haven't really found a good review on it. Thank you both for replying.

We did the hoop dee doo last year. It was awesome. There were 8 of us. We had an up front table. Our youngest was 2 at the time and she still sings the songs. She had a blast. It was a hoot!!!

My daughter's are 11 and 13, they both enjoyed the BBQ this trip. The food was good and the entertainment was fun. They were 8 and 10 when we did HDDR on our previous trip and they enjoyed that too. They are both musically inclined and really get in to anything with singing and dancing.
