Hoping to avoid a $50 cab fare each way.....Cheaper options for a solo traveller when DME isn't applicable?

Here's the info I was given for my travel: see the Mears shuttle cost at bottom

Taxi
From airport to Walt Disney World Dolphin (one-way fee): Approximately $70.00
From Walt Disney World Dolphin to airport (one-way fee): Approximately $60.00
Mears Motor Shuttle

Mears Motor Shuttle operates a shared ride van shuttle service continuously from Level One at the Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort. A typical wait time is 20-30 minutes, which can vary based on date, time of day, and business volume. Up to four hotels can be in a transfer zone.
Per-person cost for round-trip transfer via non-exclusive vans:
Adult (age 12 and older): $33.00 per adult
Child (ages 4-11): $26.00 per child

The Mears Shuttle sounds like the way to go. Did you have to make a reservation or just show up at the Dolphin? Of course, I have to figure out how to GET to the Dolphin with all of my luggage in tow.... Maybe I'll do Mears to WDW and then a taxi back?

Or....if you have a great sense of adventure you can take the Linx bus system to the Ticket and Transportation Center for about $3.00
Linx is the area bus service. I did it a few years ago and a friend of mine did it earlier this year. Of course we each only had one suitcase, but if you have more mail your luggage to your hotel(call in advance to let them know you are mailing it)

I just copied my info and it says Dolphin (cause it's my destination) but the Mears shuttle will take you to any of the hotels. You can buy your Mears ticket at the airport or call them and prepurchase a voucher. I travel a lot and have used Mears in the past. It's cost efficient for solo travel more than for two or three passengers. Go to mearstransportation.com if you want to prepurchase . You can buy one way also and do the cab return to the airport. The bad part is for the return, Mears shuttle wants to take you 3 hrs prior to your flight.

Just checked and to prepurchase a ROUND TRIP voucher is $33.00. Note that this is round trip from MCO to Dolphin and back. No need to figure this out. Just go to Mears site and check out the costs. They don't care how much luggage you have.

OP, I usually hire a towncar to pick youngest DS & me up at MCO and take us to The Swan. However, since I am traveling alone, Nov 11-14, I was looking for an inexpensive mode of transportation, as well.

I am using the Mears shuttle. I used it years ago for our first Disney trip, before they had magical express.

Most excellent! Thought it was weird that they would only go one way. I will check it out. Thank you so much!

Even though more expensive I still prefer a Towncar transfer. It's so nice to be greeted at baggage reclaim and then dropped direct at your resort.

The grocery stop is also useful for those room snacks and beer!

Of course... who wouldn't enjoy a private town car!!!

But, for those of us on a budget... the bus is a must!!

By the time I figured out all of the ins and outs transferring to/from the Dolphin et al, I decided to do the TownCar. It wasn't THAT much more expensive than a one-way Mears and taxi back. I can also do a grocery shop, so I'll save on breakfast too, so all in all, the convenience outweighed the price. That doesn't happen often! LOL :rotfl: Reserved the towncar tonight.

Thanks for your help!

Why would you take Mears to your resort and take a taxi back to the airport? Mears will pick you up at any resort. We have even taken Mears to one resort and had them pick us up at a different one.

I'll be at POFQ visiting my parents that morning. Website said if I wanted Mears to pick up at a Disney Hotel, it HAD to be DME. I can't do DME b/c I'm not staying there.

go to cheap car rentals dot com and you can most likely get a car for 15 to 25 dollars a day. be sure it is a in terminal location. I paid under $25 a day to rent a full size impala from avis my last trip sept 26 and 27th 2010. could have had a smaller car for as cheap as $17 a day. be sure to get a in terminal. no shuttles to off site locations.
