My husband surprised me with a solo trip to WDW for Mother's day. :) I am leaving on Saturday. I was wondering if any veteran solo travelers had any advice for someone travelling solo for the first time to the World. Any things that you wish you had done, are happy you did do, or things you would not recommend? I would love any advice! Many thanks!!

Primarily, relax and enjoy yourself!

Beyond that, if budget permits, book a tour or two. I highly recommend the KTTK tour in MK. I would like to try some other tours eventually, but never seem to have the time.

If there is a restaurant you would love to try that your family doesn't like, make an ADR--or two! Go in/on some attractions that interest you but your family doesn't enjoy.

If you enjoy puttering around rather than spending every day in the parks, create your own tour of the deluxe resorts. There was a really good suggestion from someone on one of the other forums--I think it was Parks & Attractions. What to do on a day without parks. The poster had a really neat route all mapped out! :)

It's all about you! :)

Like Taja said. Relax and enjoy the time. If you're not up going to a park one of the days, don't. :thumbsup2

If you're at a point during your trip and you're not sure what you want to do, ask a CM. They always have wonderful ideas.

Enjoy your trip. Remember, it's all about you.:goodvibes

I had afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian on my first afternoon, and it was a wonderful way to start the trip. Other than that, just enjoy going at your own pace!

Some of my sinful pleasures.

I go to the Territory Lounge in the WL, after wandering around the pool area, and have a couple of glasses of wine and some snacks. I take the boat over from MK, and then take the bus back to DTD, and then the water taxi back to my home resort, POR.

Walk around the shops at GF and then go downstairs and watch "Miss Rose Petal" greet her darling little guests to the mother/daughter tea.

Go to Rainforest Cafe and sit in the bar and watch a college football game on the first day I get there.

Sit on the deck at the Turf Club, with a good book, and leisurely eat lunch; keeping an eye on the golf course and the water taxi to DTD.

Take the water taxi from POR down to DTD every night. Linger in the shops, especially the Christmas shop. Get a sundae at Ghiradelli's.

Do dessert around the world at Epcot.

Linger in bed one or two mornings.

Go to the lounge each night for a nightcap.

Plan a no-park day and resort hop; going in all the shops and looking at the Xmas decorations.

Like everyone said relax! Or not depending on your personality. I've done one accidental solo trip and have one booked for June. I'm not the relaxing type really. I'll be at the park for rope drop but back to the room for a nap and pool time at noon and back to the parks for evening hours. The best part of a solo trip is doing whatever you want whenever you want. So indulge yourself. Ride what no one else wants to and see shows no one wanted to. I've discovered some of my favorites by doing that.

There is a spa at the Grand Floridian...a spa treatment would be a nice way to spoil yourself! :cloud9:

What a coincidence! My first solo trip was also a surprise from my DH for Mother's Day. My only advice is to do what YOU want to do every minute and enjoy yourself. And warn your DH-he may have created a regular occurence-I'm going on my fourteenth solo trip this fall,

Oh, I love solo trips and I hope you have a great time!
Don't forget to speak up and let those Cast Members know that you are a single rider - you can skip so many people in a lot of lines!

I love taking tours too - a great way to be around people while on your solo trip! Keys to the Kingdom is a wonderful tour, as is the FutureWorld tour over at Epcot.
There is a new tour focusing on Walt himself, if you end up taking that one, please right a review - I would love to see what someone thinks of it!

Have a great time!!!
