We will be in WDW Nov 27 - Dec 3rd. Any suggestions for the "best" spot to get a "Christmas-y" family pic. I know the castle & hat are great, but I'm really looking for more Christmas-themed Disney backdrops.

Any suggestions from Dis'ers who have been at Christmas time before?

Thanks for any help!

There will be many but they also have at the rear of the christmas shop at DTD a christmas theme area there up all year around.

Most of the Delux resorts have hugh displays that would be great.

I was also going to mention the spot @ Downtown Disney. It's on the left as you enter DD from the bus stop. It's really cute. I'm sure that time of year there should be plenty of places.

The Osbourne lights @MGM. The characters are usually at Al's Toy Barn. We have the nicest family picture with Goofy in his Santa suit - it would have made a great Christmas card! They also have Photopass photographers to take your picture with all those Christmas lights in the background - it makes a really nice setting.

We (me, DH, DS, DD) are taking our very first trip to Disney the first full week of December, and I was going to have our picture taken in front of the castle for our Christmas cards, but I love the idea of taking a Christmas themed picture... I hope you don't mind, but I am going to use some of these great ideas! :thumbsup2

If you want to take one any time of the yr with a Christmas theme, besides the DTD location if you play mini-golf at Winter Summerland, all the holes on the Winter side have a wintery theme to them. I have picture of my kids at the various holes.

For our Chistmas picture each year we just do a picture with either a character or park background. We got a great picture of our family with Expedition Everest in the background, would use it for this year's card, but can't pass up the great picture of all of us with Eeyore, Pooh and Tigger (signature).

This is the one that I am passing up this year.

I personally think that it doesn't have to reak Disney Christmas, but if it has a Disney theme it is just as nice.

Go resort hopping. All the deluxe resorts are so beautiful and there are less people around to get in you way. The GF has a awsome gingerbread house that would be great. The WL has a great hude tree. Really there are places EVERYWHERE was WDW decorates to the max for Christmas. It is a special time to vist.

We are visiting on 11/2 thru 11/7. Any idea if there will be any Christmas decorations up that early?

Rather than the perfect spot, I have another suggestion. Have everyone wear the Mickey/Minnie stocking caps that seem to be available every holiday season. Our very best photo of our kids last year was a very close up shot of the 3 of them wearing their hats. You really can't tell where they were (in the MK), but the shot is gorgeous and very Christmas-y.

I have seen a picture done with the tree at the Wilderness Lodge, and a card done in front of the Ginger bread house at the Grand Floridian. I think anywhere in Disney you can not go wrong. It is just what you and your family like. Have fun making it. I know it will be great!!

I don't think decorations go up till after Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong.

I am not sure by what date they decorate for Christmas, but we were there on the 5th of Dec. and it is decorated in front of the castle. They have the area around the Walt and Mickey completly decorated with Pointsettas, along with that whole area in front of the castle.

On Main street there is a huge Christmas tree and all of Main Street is draped with swags of decorated garland. It is really beautiful.

Not to mention that each resort has BEAUTIFULLY decorated trees and gingerbread houses. I also think, if I am not mistaken, that Saratoga has the carousel made out of chocolate (not sure which resort, but maybe someone will be able to tell you). I know I have seen it the last 2 years that I have been there at Christmas.

Here was our first family Christmas photo at Disney

In World Showcase during holiday season, they have the character bus which is all decorated for Christmas (with a wreath on the front and a Happy Holidays banner) and the characters are all in their Christmas clothes. We had our daughter pose in front of the bus, next to Mickey. The photo came out great. Like the other posters said, there are so many lovely spots to take your Christmas photo! Have Fun!!

...and Love The Mouse..I love your photo! The pointsettias are amazing, they are everywhere. I miss our December trips to WDW. :santa:

Didn't they stop doing the character bus in Epcot?

Yes. They've stopped doing the character bus as far as an everyday thing. However, it comes around for special appearances at the holidays. Could be different this year, ya never know.

There are spots all over that can be good. I think the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian is good... as is any tree at any of the hotel. Downtown Disney/Marketplace is another. Of course, lots of others will be trying too. There is also other gingerbread at the Beach Club Resort. Its a carousel. Donald's Tree Lot at MK, with Santa... Osbourne Family Lights.....The decorations start going up around mid November. OFL @ MGM start 11/13/06 and the MVMCP also starts this same date, so decorations should be up or going shortly. We stayed once at Port Orleans Riverside, went to bed and woke the next morning and the tree was up! (was like 11/10)

I enclosed a couple links to site pics to get an idea of a few things. I know I have seen a decorating schedule before, just not this year.

Two weeks ago when we were there, they had a Narnia set at MGM that you could take pictures on (a winter scene w/snow & a snow covered street light) - I wanted to go back & try to get a picture there but forgot.

Great ideas!
We will be there Dec 15-22. I am making my cards already and bringing them with me along with my little photo printer/docking station. I want to get a shot of us there, print photos back at the hotel, slap them on the cards and mail. I will need to remember some of the places suggested here.

Allyson :)
