Suggestions for a "primping" party?

My soon-to-be 9 year old DD has her heart set on a "primping" party, which is evidently the new thing around here. I've made arrangements at a local salon to do this thing for a small group of her friends.

We're only talking funky hairstyles and nail polish/designs.

We'll have the whole place to ourselves so I'm thinking of taking fun music for them (we have lots of radio disney cds and I can download other stuff from iTunes, etc.).

And I was thinking of setting up a craft table of some sort for the girls who are not actually getting their "treatment" done.

Anyway, this is all new to me and I have to admit I'm a bit taken aback by how fast my DD is growing up. All of a sudden she and her friends are becoming very sophisticated young ladies.

So, I'm wondering if any of you moms out there have suggestions for a "primping" or "drama queen" type party.

Thanks!

How fun!
Maybe for your craft ideas they could be making themselves Drama Queen crowns or painting night shirts/pillow cases this could also be their "goodie" to take home. Take a digital camera w/portable printer and have them make a frame for a "Before & After" picture. Maybe have temporary tattoos. We do the tattoos at all my DD's parties and they are a huge hit.

Sounds like a load of fun.... I love having a princess:

Lots of great ideas from mamacatnv especially the before and after pics/frames and the tattoos.
Just wanted to say this sounds like alot of fun and I'll have to keep it in mind for the future! :thumbsup2

I know of two little girls who had their parties at the local beauty school. They had a great time, but I think there were plenty of stylists, so there wasn't a lot of down time to do any kind of craft project. Plus, if their nails are wet, will they be able to do crafts? Maybe talk to the salon to see what they think. I love the picture frame idea BTW!

If you can't print pictures right then, maybe you could take a picture of each child with the birthday girl and send it in your thank you notes.

I had something similar for my DD at about that age, but I did it myself. No salons in our area at the time.

I had a "make a hair ornament" craft. Klutz sells a book on hair barettes, combs, etc.

I also did hair wraps for the girls (another Klutz book!), while they had dance contests and played twister.
