I'm thinking about taking a short trip with DH (no kids) sometime before next March. I was able to aquire enough Southwest points to get a Companion Pass so I get to fly free with DH as often as I want until March 2011:cool1: We also have a ton of Choice hotel points we can use to stay for free.

We are using the companion pass for our trip to CA this summer, but I would love to take advantage of this for another trip because I don't know if we'll get another CP anytime soon!

I am going back to school in September so I need to work around that, and more than likely my DD20 will be the one to take care of our other kids while we're gone. She's in school too, so it looks like the most logical time to try to travel would be in January during school break.

We've done Disney without kids before and had an awesome time, so it's in the back of my mind, but I was leaning more towards going someplace we've never been before.

Vegas isn't high on my list since DH likes to gamble (a lot!) and I really don't. If we go there I know he'll want to be in the casino and I really dislike that atmosphere. I won't discount it entirely, but I do know my DH and what he will be like there lol!

I would love to go to the Grand Canyon or San Fransisco but is the weather agreeable in January?

Any ideas??

For a no kids trip in January, my choices would be:

- Key West, FL
- Sedona, AZ
- Skiing in CO/UT

Have fun wherever you land!

We also love Key West, in Jan the weather will be nice but the water will be cold.

Or Charleston SC, very romantic city, I have not been there in Jan though so can't offer any help there.

I like the Key West idea. Does it have to be in the continental US-what about Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbean someplace? Another good "winter" place is Banff in Alberta Canada. It is simply beautiful there and you could go skiing or snowmobiling in the mountains.

It would be kinda chilly in SF that time of year, BUT, I love going there!

Also consider Palm Springs. It has casinos but they are not the focus of the whole area. I can invision your DH gaming at the Spa Casino in downtown Palm Springs while you have a nice spa day there...then you can meet up for dinner at Matchbox.

And then the next day, you can take the PS Tram and explore a totally different part...up a mountain for lunch! Then after that, drive to La Quinta or Rancho Mirage for some high-end window shopping and then dinner at Las Casuelas...

it has to be a place that Southwest flies to and I don't think they fly to any other countries

Well, that makes sense :lmao:

Is San Diego in your plans for your California trip? If not, I would go there.

I just looked on the Southwest site, and I would definitely go for a warm destination in January.

San Diego
Phoenix
San Antonio
New Orleans
Ft. Lauderdale

Lots of great suggestions!

yes, we are spending a few days in San Diego during our family trip to CA, but maybe if we really love it there, we will head back to explore without kids....trips without kids are just a whole different experience!
