Or is it called word processing now?

He really has trouble with writing and it was suggested that if he could master the keyboard a laptop might really help him in school.

We bought a Spongebob Learn to Type CP, but it is really boring...

The ideal thing would be a Lego star Wars keyboarding program!:rotfl:

Any suggestions where I might search for something to help?

Hello...

I'm a technology teacher and I have the kids use a free program on the internet called www.dancemattyping.com. It has 4 stages with 3 levels each.

The kids in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd use it currently. I have started my 4th graders on an computer program called "Type To Learn 3" by Sunburst software. It is highly rated in the school realm of computer typing.

Good luck.

Ps. dance mat typing is a UK website, so the little talking goat guy has the notorious English accent...really funny!!! Well, I guess we actually have an accent and not the English? Humm.:rolleyes1

I wish I could remember the name of the program they used at one of the schools I subbed in. The MS and HS kids played it ALOT. It had something to do with basketball. They had to hit the right letter to make a basket I think. I only half watched it because I had about 10 kids I had to monitor. They really loved it though. I know I saw it at our local library once, too.

Our kids have used the Mavis Beacon programs at school and have learned keyboarding rather quickly. I would also suggest that once he gets far enough along in a program to get him going on MSN messenger with his buddies. Our kids have really improved their typing skills IM'ing their friends.

Elementary/ Middle School Advantage has Macon Beavis keyboarding, as well as other academic subjects. We got it at Sam's Club.

We use Jump Start Typing in our classroom. The kids love it.

I don't know if it's still available (we got it about 1999) but DD learned with "Adventures in Typing with Timon & Pumba". What better for a Disney nut? ;) There is instruction as well as games to play to improve proficiency. Someone had given us Mavis Beacon, but she found that incredibly boring...heck, so did I! :rotfl2:

Thanks for all the suggestions. DS was on the computer this morning and he did a little of the dance mat typing program.

I would also like to find out about the basketball one. Heck if you had a bunch of boys entertained, it is worth a try.

Does anyone know?

OK, I did a little research. I think it was called Slam Dunk typing. The screen pictures look like what I remember. The boys always loved to play it. I think because it was sports related!
