Now let me preface this with the fact I really don't know from experience about Dis Con 2001. But, I've been told that there was a meal, conferences, and special seating at Illuminations and Fantasmic, and an hour of Tower of Terror just for Dis Con. I also heard that it cost $300!
My suggestion, IF all I have said was true and would be true for 2002 - cut the cost and offer events a la carte. I don't think if the cost was that much, that I would want to spend that for the activities just described.

First I am not Pete so I cannot answer for the prices that he posted tonight..but in reference to the Tower of Terror.. Pete paid for that himself as a special event, it was not part of the package.

When I wrote that post, I did not know the price for this year. I was quoting what I heard the price had been last year, $300. Pete says the price this year will be about $210. I'll still have to think about even that much.
Ummmmm Dinner Buffet $75 ?
Breakfast " $75 ?
Illuminations $50 ?
Gift bag $10 ?

Of course Carl.. your attending DisCon is definitely your decision.. Have a great evening.. :D

Well, of course I'd like to participate. And if push comes to shove, I CAN afford it. But, how about those that would really have a tough time coming up with that kind of money? I still say it would be nice to have an a la carte choice.

Please let me preface this with......Sometimes I shouldn't say anything.....Well let me tell a quick story. I own a Bail Bonding Company. Middle of the night ....I get a call from a new Inmate.... his bail has set and he would like me to get out of my warm bed and got to the jail to release him on my bond. Well here is the good part....I had already told him the fee for my service....but this poor guy thinks I'm going to lower my fee just because I'm ALREADY UP...boy do I have a news flash for him......TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.... I quickly let him know I won't negotiate and that I can be home and back in bed within 5 short minutes. The inmate thought I might be bluffing---naw....I'm almost out the door when he YELLS...I'll Pay!!!!! He ended up being a great client who just wanted to try and save a few dollars. As my daughter would say...." AND YOUR POINT IS" Only you can judge if the price is something you want to spend for the services rendered. Trust me I'm not judging...Always left that to someone else. Carl, just a thought, but perhaps looking at it a little differently may change your perspective:

$210 for 5 days = $42 per day, to include:

- Opening Reception
- Group Dinner (Beach Buffet) and Awards Cermony
- Epcot Illuminations Party
- Breakfast Buffet (not sure if this will be characters or not)
- Family Photos (Printed, and available on the web site)
- Special "Goodie Bag" at check in (they'll be some REALLY cool stuff in this...but I'm not tellin)
- There are also some other surprises that I'm thinking about adding, but I can't say for sure yet...but I have a really cool idea (ask anyone, I usually have really big ideas).

....which ALSO entitles participants the super awesome room rate at the Dolphin of $129 per night.

Illuminations private parties are usually starting at around $26 per person and up....family photo packages are normally quite pricey on their own as well (aprox $32 and up or around there?) just as a couple of examples. Add in the organized meals and reception, convention hall costs, etc....

I see $42 per day for these events as quite a bargain, JMHO

I'm sure a big reason they don't offer a pick and choose type of registration is the chaos this type of registration would cause. Pete and crew would be drowing in a sea of paperwork, etc. trying to keep everyone's choices straight. You're talking about 200-300 people registering for this. I'm pretty sure they're not set up for anything so involved. Someone had suggested this last year, too. It's just way too much work to offer this type of program. It was simple last year-we registered, received our itineraries, lanyards with ID, meal and picture coupons and we were off and running. SInce Pete hasn't given us the complete picture yet, you could reserve judgement until then. And, like others have said, only you can decide whether it's worth it or not. :)

I will also need to know when the events are to be. Some may conflict with other activities I have planned. For example on the 3rd I will be going to the MVMCP and I have to leave on the 8th, so I wouldn't want to pay and then miss some of the activities.

Carl

As far as I remember Pete wasn't going to have a closing date for registration this year so you can register right up to the last minute if you want to hang around for a while and see exactly what dates events are going to be held on then that'd be great and that way you don't have to make your decision now.
