Hi - I'm a regular here at the DIS but don't make it over here to the community board too often but I know you guys are perfect to help me with some suggestions on my DH's 40th birthday party.

We are inviting a bunch of friends to Shreveport for the weekend (he knows about it) to gamble...DH is a huge fan of blackjack....we live in Dallas so it's not too bad of a drive and we've been a few times before but never to this casino.

We are staying at Sam's Town Casino (formerlly Harrah's) - anyone ever stayed here and if so what was your experience? The other two big casinos were either booked or not booking ressies yet this far out (it's 2 months away). It was a must for us to actually stay at a casino (he'll be up all night playing and I want to be able to go to the room for a siesta)....so we went with Sam's Town.

Any suggestions on party favors? I'm going with the casino theme. We'll probably have about 20 people on and off through the weekend so I thought about giving out gift bags with casino chips but that could get really pricey....

Also, has anyone had any experience with the casino's in Shreveport and ordering something to be in the room upon arrival (keep your minds out of the gutter - I was thinking of a cake or something like that)....I'm so used to the Disney CM's and working through concierge to get anything I'd like in the room upon arrival...I just don't know if hotels in the "outside world" operate like that...

Basically, I'm open to any suggestions on how to add a little pixie dust to the celebration - goodie bags, surprises in the room (again, keep it clean!), party favors, etc.....and any recent experiences at Sam's Town - good or bad!

Thanks DISers! :goodvibes

Party favors? Money, tokens, cards with cash on them perhaps? Deck of cards, Texas Holdem, poker chips, buttons to wear saying your dh is 40?

Sounds like fun!

No ideas, but just wanted to say you have a pretty cool screen name there.....Bride In The Attic. And stop by more often.

You're right next to Eldorado Casino (used to be Hollywood).

There's some good bakeries in town - like Julie Anne's, Cheesecakes and More and Dough Basket. Also Krogers, Sam's, Target, Wal-Mart.

If you are coming in February, you might be hitting Mardi Gras. And with NOLA still questionable about being able to have Mardi Gras, Shreveport has a quite a few Krewes and parades. These will be Feb 18-28.

You could do a Mardi Gras theme.

Oh my gosh - I hadn't even thought of Mardi Gras...we will actually be there the first weekend in March so we'll miss the crowds...

Thanks for the suggestions on the bakeries - I'll definitely give them a call...
