Suggest Some Wines to ME!

Oh cripes, I didnt realie the name was not regulation for DIS. Sorry.

The wine is pretty decent though. Gives us a giggle.;)

:rotfl: I almost mentioned this wine in my last post, but wasn't sure if the filter would pick it up. I guess that's all cleared up! And I agree, it's not a bad wine.

:lmao: I know the wine you are talking about, I think it's hilarious that the DIS filter kicked in.

OP, it's fat "derogatory-slang-name-for-child-of-unmarried-parents"

:lmao: That's certainly a great way to put it!

A few more:

Crios de Susana Balbo Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2007
Pillar Box Red 2006
Razor's Edge Shiraz Grenache 2006
Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Shiraz 2007

Anything from Chateau St Michelle - especially their syrah which I cant find around here anymore (but they carry in Le Cellier!)

BV cabernet
Sterling Vintners cab

I will drink just about anything except sweet unless it is ice wine.

Shingleback Shiraz
Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz
Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz

I just thought of another one:

"Honeeeeeeyyy, lets go out to Dinnerrrrrrrrrr!!"

hehehehehe

I am so embarrased.

But yeah, that is the one.

There is also one

"Screw Kappa Napa" (SKN)
t does have a screw cap. But it is pretty nasty.

Zinfandel is an excellent choice!!!! I think it's similar to Syrah in that it can have a spicy/peppery zing to it. And we drink a fair amount of Seghesio in our house too. I'll have to try the Rancho Zabaco because SEghesio has really raised their prices lately. We used to belong to their wine club and still have several bottles stashed away in the basement. On our last few trips to wine country, we've started the day in the Seghesio tasting room, and then ask for suggestions to other wineries we might like. We've been sent to several great wineries, and in fact switched wine clubs to one of their rivals. Mainly because we can get everything Seghesio makes here in Iowa, and we went with a winery that doesn't distribute here.

Our latest $10 find is Erik the Red from Toad Hollow. The bottle didn't say what the grape mix was, but it was tasty, and matched great with a cheese/bread/fruit supper.

Yes, I agree, it is peppery/spicy..and really, really warm going down on a cold night. I think when I was buying Seghesio by the case it was around $8-9 /bottle. I don't know how much it is now.:guilty: When I started drinking the Rancho Zabaco it was only $6/bottle, but it got good reviews. It's drinkable! Now it's up around $9-10/bottle. I am always trying some new one, but it is usually a Zin. The stuff I have opened right now is a $2.97 bottle of Cab from Krogers...who can resist trying a $3 bottle of wine?!!

I have yet to get to a Trader Joe's to try their two buck Chuck..we don't have one here. But we have $3 Kroger!!

Sometimes, I just go by label design, too. I HAD to buy a bottle of red wine for Thanksgiving at my DSIL's called "Menage a Trois"!

I'm going to try Eric the Red! Thanks for the suggestion..;) :thumbsup2

If you're picking by interesting names - my husband's most eccentric friend brought over some Hungarian wine for a party. It was called Egri Bikaver "Bulls Blood" and I was a little afraid to drink it. Wouldn't you know it was featured on the Today show this am. It's a red table wine.

I have been enjoying a glass (or six) of Le Snoot (CabSav) this evening. I like it (probably because it has pigs dressed in formal attire on the label, and I love pigs), but what is your favorite wine/winery? I'm partial to cabernet or syrah/shiraz, but will consider any suggestion! :thumbsup2

I LOVE Charles Shaw wines. I buy them buy the cases.

I love their Cabernet Sauv, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauv Blanc, etc.

They taste so smoooooth.

My husband has some $50+ wines in the cellar and they're good, but to me, Charles Shaw tastes just as good. :thumbsup2

Hob Nob makes a terrific Pinot Noir and Merlot in the $10 range.
I've been on a Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon kick lately. So delicious! $35 and up.

For those of you around BevMo stores - the 5 cent sale is going on now (buy a bottle of wine and buy a second one of the same for only 5 cents). That's a grreat deal for both your favorites and ones you want to try.

I know a lot of people enjoy the Shaws; I can't stand them. Smoking Loon and Mirassou (sp?) are my latest preferences. Pinot noir for red / pinot grigio for white.

I'm not such a big fan of wine, so I don't know how good it is, but everyone around here has been drinking Fish Eye. It's not that expensive, maybe that's why they like it. :rolleyes1

I've only had the Menage a Trois red, haven't tried the white or rose versions. It's $8 at Costco, $10-11 everywhere else. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel blend. Very soft wine for this price point, isn't as zippy as a full Zinfandel. It's one of those bottles I keep on hand to open anytime.

Seghesio Sonoma county zin is up to $18 at Costco (was $16 last fall), now over $20 at my grocery store. The named zin's were $25 a few years ago when we were getting them in the club shipments (plus an extra 20% off) now they are $35, except for the Old Vine Zin for $29 at Costco 2 weeks ago.

I prefer Zinfandel, it is a heavier more full bodied wine than merlot or cab. It also has a higher alcohol content, so watch out! I used to buy Seghesio by the case, but I like Rancho Zabaco which can cost under $10/bottle. This is a red Zin, not the pink Kool Aid stuff.:scared:

That it does! I usually just drink the house zin (white zin, yes the pink koolaid :rotfl: ) and its almost always Sutter Home, which I don't mind. I can literally have two glasses and feel kinda light headed!
