Sugar-free drink options?

My teen daughter is diabetic and I am trying to figure out her drink options. Other than diet coke and iced tea, are there any other sugar free/low sugar options available for free? Do they offer reduced-sugar juices? Or should I just pack a bunch of sugar free drink mixes to add to water?

TIA!

They do have Sprite Zero - my 6 yr old is diabetic and he got this from the drink station and at meal times. I didn't see any reduced sugar juices. If she likes other drinks I'd bring them with you or bring those mix-in packets for the bottles.

My 13 yo DS is also diabetic. I didn't know they had diet ice tea. Thanks for the info. He will drink diet soda all day if I don't watch him:sad2: and he doesn't like the mix -ins. I am going to try to figure out a carb count for a non-alcoholic pina colada though so he can bolus correctly. It is vacation:woohoo:

The ice tea I had at meals was unsweetened. Just in case you were thinking flavored diet iced tea like snapple.

Have you tried crystal lite? that is the only mix in I like that I have tried
They come in so many flavors that there may be one he likes

Your DS must wear a pump? So does my DH.

My daughter is into the Propel mix ins. We go through them pretty fast. I also noticed that Splenda has created their own mix in. I haven't seen them in the store yet, but I picked up some samples at a JDRF walk.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. More like fountain Diet Nestea. Oh Well

Tried them all. No go.

Best thing we ever did is switch to the pump. It is a Gods send.

He loves the bottled Propel. That is what he uses for soccer and in the house when I say enough soda. Gatorade just came out with a new product called G2. He loves the orange flavor and it has the same number of carbs or even less than the Propel. I wish he would just drink more water but he says he get water logged:laughing:

Our last two cruises, the diet soda was flat (both ships). As a result, we bring our own.

Not trying to start anything, but truly why doesn't she drink water? It is so much healthier, tasty, and goes with anything. We don't dring any soda or lemonade, etc. :confused3 Water is fantastic for the body.

You know, I bet drinking water never occurred to parents of a diabetic! :rolleyes1

As a diabetic, I drink 40-60 oz of water daily (which we bring aboard as well); HOWEVER, I do like to have some flavor now and then. Not everyone thinks water is tasty. We all have different tastes in our drinks.

What is the sweetener in the Propel and the G2? I can't use aspartame or sugar alcohols but can use Splenda or adjust my insulin for carbs.

I'm not sure what the sweetener is. I'm looking at the powder packets now, and it doesn't say Splenda on the package, which I think it would if it used it. It doesn't say aspartame either, and I don't know what sugar alcohols are. The website for it is www.propelwater.com. You could check there to see what it uses. One packet flavors a 16 oz bottle of water and contains 6g of carbohydrates. I know they sell it in bottles also. We just always get the packets and flavor our own bottles of water.

You might want to check your stores to see if they sell the Splenda mix in product, or check the Splenda web site. You might be able to pick up the mix ins there.

The Propel has sucrose syrup and sucralose (splenda) in it and a 23.7 fl. oz bottle has 8 carbs.

The G2 has sucrose syrup and high fructose corn syrup (glucose-fructose syrup) and a 20 oz bottle has 17 carbs.

ITA!

Not everyone enjoys plain water, and even those that do might like a little change once in a while. I can't imagine how someone wouldn't get that. I guess it takes all kinds...

But I like a lemonade or fruit punch w/my meals. I'm diabetic, too, and can't drink carbonated drinks. Kids taste buds can change, so periodically, you might try the different mixes again. I really like the orange & grape G2 but it doesn't come in a mix. I like Tropicana's diet fruit punch, but it is bottles or cans. I like the Crystal Light mixes also. But if a kid (or a man so you're in double trouble) decides they don't like something, it will be hard to change their mind. You have to trick them & present it as new.

Thank you. This information is just what I need to make an informed decision on using Propel water.

Have you tried mixing the drink mixes with club soda/seltzer? My kids love this. I have even managed to switch them to plain club soda with a lemon in it. I am not a diabetic, but I am very sensitive to sugar and carbs. I am sure I will be joining the club someday.

Enjoy your cruise.
