So, stupid me decided to join a Biggest Loser competiton at work and of course the final weigh in is the day I get back from Disney. . . during FREE dining. :::Sigh::: AND I had my heart set on drinking my way around EPCOT. (Although. . . I still may have a Grey Goose Slushie). Anyway, I think I all ready know the answer to this, but I wanted everyone's input. Here is where we are planning on eating.
O'Hana
Boma
Biergarten
Marrakesh
Mama Melrose
Kona

What are my chances on getting sugar free desserts at these places? I will be honest. It will kill me not to have the bread pudding at O'Hana and creme brulee at Kona. . . but 1. no one at work thinks I can do this and 2. it's a $250 pot!!
And yes, I know it's Disney, but it's just food. . .right?? RIGHT??? lol

Anyway, any input on these places would be great! Thanks!

I don't know about those desserts, but AK has a sugar free brownie that will beat any brownie hands down!! That thing was terrific.

Good luck on the weight loss.

Hi rn1096 :wave2:

My dad is diabetic and we had the dining plan a few years ago, if you just tell the waitor/waitress before your meal that you would be interested in a sugar free dessert they will do everything they can to accommodate you. Some restaurants actually offered a sugar free dessert, others made him a fruit cup or something like that.

Each restaurant was VERY understanding and made my Dad top priority when it came to dessert time. Normally he feels like the outcast as everyone else is eating their chocolate desserts.

Disney is awesome when it comes to coming up with sugar free items though.

Hope you have a great trip :) And good luck with your weigh in.

As a hypoglycemic I can tell you sugar free is widely available. But with a word of caution: Sugar free doesn't mean low carb or low fat. If you are strictly counting sugar then you'll be ok. Fruit or a fruit cup is usually available even at CS locations.

I seem to recall that every sit-down restaurant has a sugar-free option on their dessert menu.

Good luck on your Biggest Loser competition at work! We had one at my work earlier this year, and I lost 20 lbs and lost first place by just .1%. It was fun though!

If you go to www.ourlaughingplace.com they have reviews with SF desserts. And just so you know the calorie difference is sometimes not that much, they still use butter, cream, etc... just drink your water & walk walk walk, you might be surprised when you get home. And maybe have one of those 2 desserts.

I'm in, and have been in, Biggest Loser contests at work for the past year. I completely understand the desire for sugar free desserts at Disney. Ohana's server was not accommodating and did not offer a sugar free dessert option. Boma went out of their way and brought me a bowl of broccoli when I mentioned I wasn't eating carbs and brought a sugar free cheesecake that was absolutely delicious!!! I didn't eat at the other restaurants you are going to but I think that I've seen sugar free options at Biergarten. Might have been just jello but at least it was something.

Congrats on your dedication!! Even at Disney World!!

Most restaurants have a sugar free option. But be careful, most SF desserts still have as many calories as regular desserts.

Are you LCing? I just started LCing to loose 10 pounds before Disney next month. I want to look less lumpy in my pics.

Also, I think that most of the desserts people are talking about here are "no sugar added," not "sugar free."

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes, I am low carbing. I've done really well on it in the past. What I may just do is eat "smart" all day and then at dinner eat one or two bites of a normal dessert. I don't normally eat dessert anyway, so this is a rare treat.

I would REALLY like to come back from vacation and win that money though. I work as an ER nurse so we are all a bit competitive with each other. lol

Thanks again everyone!

Heather

most sugar free things still have some form of sugar in them so you must be careful. i have had gastric bypass surgery and i always look at the sugar count on things. but sometimes the sugar alchol is more than just the sugar count. there are so many forms of sugar it makes your head spin. i am coming to disney in december and have been meaning to research this exact topic but havn't yet. good luck on your weight lose and have a great time in disney.

Yep,
I have learned that no sugar added desserts often are as high in calories as the higher sugar choices and often have more fat!!

I just order what I want and take a few bite and pass it off!!!!

I have seen many of the sugar free desserts...well they really are mostly called "no sugar added" and I can tell you they are often very high calorie/high carb desserts - there is no way sugar free=low carb (of this I'm sure...have done Atkins for years, so very familiar with low carb foods. Sugar free jello is low carb...these desserts are not!) Some of the no sugar added desserts are also really NASTY tasting...DD got one of the prepackaged no-sugar added brownie at Cosmic Rays...was so bad she actually had to spit it out into a napkin. Course, that would be a good way to keep you on the straight & narrow if they tasted so bad you spit them out, lol.

if you're seriously not wanting to gain weight at Disney skip the dessert completely, or get the fruit cups only.

I can attest that the sugar free/ low sugar thing at Coral Reef is absolutely INEDIBLE. It is pepto bismol pink thing with the texture of foam (foam would taste better)...anyone considering this...I BEG you to stay away...stay FAR away...
