I read somewhere that DCL has some sf desserts. Is this something I have to tell them beforehand, or can I just tell my server? I eat only low carb and don't want to sacrifice on vacation. I know that you can have your meals modified, such as sauces and gravies on the side, extra salad and veggies, etc. Hope someone out there knows the answer. Thanks!

The sugar free dessert was listed each night on the menu with reg. desserts on our last cruise.

Just be prepared that they will not taste quite as good as the orginal "sugared" desserts. One at our table ordered them several times and did not really care for them.

Actually, I can tell you from experience that the Sugar Free desserts are not necessarily all they are cracked up to be. I'm a diabetic but on our cruise I just ate from the regular dessert menu and just didn't eat all of my dessert. They did offer Sugar free desserts but remember that Sugar Free does not equal carb free. :) Sure the carbs will be less. but in some cases we are only talking like 10 grams here and for that I'd rather eat half of a regular tasting dessert. :)

Just my opinion!

And I can tell you from personal experience that they are not always a tasty dessert. I'm used to doing without a dessert so it wasn't a terrible catastrophe for me to just say no thanks.

They had a carrot cake that was great, they often have sf vanilla ice cream, and at Palo's, they made a sf cake for me that was delicious.

They offered a rice pudding one evening and I tried it. It was all rice and no pudding and really should have been offered as a vegetable or a side dish. I took one very small spoonful and said that's ok, I'll just have another coffee.

It is worth asking about every evening though.

I am a low carber too...but I have no intention of completely minding the diet on the cruise. I will try to eat right most of the day, but if I see something I want, I am going to do it. It's only one week out of the year right??? I am just going to work out alot, and I'm sure I'll get plenty of exercise on the excursions to make up for it.

Jennifer,

I know what you mean. Though I honestly feel so fatigued after I have something loaded with sugar. I'm so used to eating low-carb that its not worth it to "cheat" even for a week. I'm not that strict, though. Alcoholic beverages are permitted, in moderation, as long as the mix is sf. :) I have to choose my carbs carefully! Three weeks and counting!!!
