Sugar Cookies
Yield: 5 – 6 dozen

1 1/3 c shortening
1 ½ c sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
8 tsp milk
4 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt (optional)

Cream shortening, sugar & vanilla. Add eggs & milk. Beat until fluffy. Blend in dry ingredients. Divide in half & chill one hour. Roll & cut out. Bake 8 – 10 minutes at 375.

[NOTE: 8 tsp = 2 Tbl + 2 tsp]

Roll -out? Or drop or formed?.....I've got a couple great ones that aren't rolled.

I never heard of drop sugar cookies! Oh, wow! All the taste with half the work? Please share! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Amish Sugar Cookies 2

Recipe By :Linda Magee
Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Cookies Formed

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 cup sugar
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 cup butter or margarine -- at room temperature
1 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs -- beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Sugar

Combine the sugars, butter, oil and eggs in a large mixer bowl. Beat until light and fluffy.
Add baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, vanilla and flour. Mix well.
Refrigerate dough until WELL chilled (2-3 hours or overnight). The dough MUST be well chilled or it will be hard to work with.
Preheat oven to 375º.
Roll the chilled dough into golf ball-size balls. Roll in sugar (you can use colored sugar).
Place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 3" apart (they do spread).
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies are barely browned around the edges and the cookies aren't shiny in the middle.
Leave on cookie sheets for 2-3 minutes. If you try to remove them, they WILL fall apart.

I don't have a drop one, but here is a rolled one from Betty Crocker. The cookies come at soft and plump. I love them.

1 1/2c powdered sugar
1c butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 egg
2 1/2c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
granulated sugar

Mix first 5 ingredients. Separately mix next three ingredients (dry ingredients). Mix dry and wet together. Cover and refridgerate for at least 2 hrs.

Heat oven to 375. Grease cookie sheets lightly. Divide dough in 1/2. Roll 1/2 dough 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shape. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and place on cookie sheet. Complete the same with the second 1/2 of the dough. Bake for 7-8 minutes, until edges are light brown.

Believe your recipe is just like mine execpt I add 1/2 tsp more vanilla and no almond extract! Funny my cookies are hard but I use chilled butter. I did make them one time and used soft butter and they were much softer. but they are so yummy!

They are yummy. I have a lot of people tell me that they are like butter cookies.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to make some this weekend. Thanks again!

Another set of yummy sounding cookie recipes! Thanks for posting them.
