I am planning on making Sugar Cookies in the shape of stars for my daughter's birthday party so that the kids can decorate them. Does anyone have recipes that are easy that they like?

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Recipe By :Karin Christian
Serving Size : 66 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Cookies Formed
Rolled

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter -- softened
3 ounces cream cheese -- softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

In a large bowl combine the sugar, butter or margarine, cream cheese, salt, almond extract, vanilla and egg yolk. Blend well.
Stir in the flour and mix until well blended.
Chill the dough overnight. This is very important the dough is too sticky to roll out unless well chilled.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough 1/3 at a time to 1/8 inch thickness, refrigerating remaining dough until ready for it.
Cut into desired shapes with lightly floured cookie cutters.
Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Leave cookies plain for frosting or brush with slightly beaten egg white and sprinkle with candy sprinkles or colored sugar.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 7 to 10 minutes or until light and golden brown.
Cool cookies completely before frosting.

Thanks Nancy. Those two recipes on the top sound yummy but not sure how much the little kids would go for it, so I'll try them on my own, and will try to make the 3rd recipe. Thank you :)

Wilton has a sugar cookie recipe that is awesome and it is perfect for what you are doing I use it all the time for parties at school for the kids to decorate themselves. try their website and if you cant find it I will track it down for you tomorrow. rolled cut out cookies is what it is under I think.

Easy Sugar Cookies

1 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1-1/2 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 2 tablespoons milk
1-1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
5 cups of flour

Mix ingredients as listed. If rolling out dough to cut shapes, roll out on floured surface. OR, you can roll into small balls, dip into colored sugar or sprinkles, and bake. Bake at 325° until no longer sticky to touch. (Unsure of exact amount of time) COOKIES DO NOT BROWN. THEY WILL STAY WHITE WHEN DONE. Dough does not have be refrigerated.

I got this recipe from another Mom years ago and it has been years ago since I made them....sorry I did not write down the baking time and I don't remember. BUT, I remember they melt in your mouth!! :teeth:

How did that recipe work out for you?? Did you figure out a good baking time as I left a blank there! :sunny:

This recipe is from Wilton:

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 lg egg
1 tsp clear vanilla
2 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour

Preheat oven to 350. In bowl cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix baking powder and flour, add one cup of flour at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough will be very stiff; bleand last flour by hand, (if dough is too stiff add water a teaspoon at a time) Do not chill dough. Divide into 2 portions. On a floured surface, roll each portion into circle approx 12 in diameter and 1/8" thick. Dip cutters into flour before each use. Bake on ungreased cookie shee on top rack of oven for 6-7 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Makes 20-24 cookies.
