Day 4
Disney Quest and my Xmas Pressie
Today is the day I have been looking forward to. First we are going to Disney Quest and then Cirque Du Soleil, neither of which we have ever done before. The Cirque tickets for were my Christmas present from Jorge. As they are my tickets I threaten Jorge and Becky that they must behave today or I will give them away to someone off the street. They dont believe me for a second though.
Breakfast at Dennys on the 192 Steak & Eggs for Jorge, Smiley face pancakes for Rebecca and an ordinary brekkie for me. Very reasonable at $25 including the tip. We arrive at Disney Quest at around 11am and wander round for a while. As the layout here is very confusing with staircases everywhere going in odd directions it took us a while to get our bearings. As it was early the place was almost deserted so we had our pick of the attractions. We enjoyed making our own rollercoasters and riding on the inflatable raft rides but got extremely frustrated trying to drive little cars round in their underground tunnels. I discovered that, although I can ride the largest, fastest rollercoasters in Orlando many times in a row, anything with a Virtual Reality headset makes my stomach feel like its been placed in a spin dryer. Luckily I discover the internet terminals and leave Jorge & Becky to do VR while I surf for a while. Annoyingly AOL will not let me access my emails and I end up just sending my mum a very cryptic message from DQ.
After my surf I spend ages trying to find Jorge & Becky and eventually track them down in Sids Create-A-Toy. Becky has made up her own toy on screen and wants to buy it. $15 for a bit of plastic? I dont think so, my girl! Next we try our hand at producing a CD in the music booths and end up paying $10 for a print of our lousy efforts I should have bought the toy, at least that would have seen the light of day occasionally when we get home!
By this time we are starving and climb the 27 flights of stairs to the Cheesecake Factory (OK there were only 3 or 4 but the stair novelty is starting to wear a bit thin now!!) I have to say that there is a rather ominous smell of dirty cooking oil lingering in the air up here but the Jasmine Chicken Wraps are rather tasty, and very filling, I almost dont have room for the massive piece of cheesecake. Luckily my hollow legs dont desert me and everything gets eaten. Not sure my digestion is up to it though. LOL. After lunch we tackle Pirates in 3D and zap Aliens for a while on the old Arcade machines, most of which make me feel disgustingly old as I remember them from my youth. They look like antiques now! Adding to my feeling of old age is the fact that the constant loud music is starting to give me a headache and, as we have done all we wanted to do, the time has come to leave DQ. We have enjoyed our 4 or so hours here but would probably not come back regularly to do the same things again. Maybe in a few years when they have updated everything.
Cirque is at 6pm and we have been advised to arrive early so no time to go back for a swim, besides the weather is cloudy and threatening rain so we check out the shops at DD. After marveling at the memorabilia shop and buying a couple of fridge magnets, it is quickly 5pm and we head down to Cirque. Once inside we arm ourselves with drinks and sweets and take our seats. The show starts with a couple of mime clowns who are right in front of us and are very funny and then the main show starts on the large stage. The show itself is a bit like a dream sequence and moves so quickly with is so much going on that I have a job keeping up, constantly feeling like I have missed something out of the corner of my eye. The main performers are stunning though, and I especially love the flyer who flies around the theater aided only by two long lengths of red fabric beautiful. Unfortunately, while she was enjoying the show, Rebecca was also sitting in full blast of the air conditioning and kept moaning that she was freezing. She seemed better after we swapped seats but I would definitely bring jackets if we came again. And I think we have to come again, just to pick up on all the detail. Everything was over so quickly and it seemed only minutes before we were back on the street and heading for home, our heads filled with memories from the show.
Today has been a great day but we are exhausted and I struggle to finish even one glass of wine before my bed calls me.
Tomorrow we are taking it a bit easier at Blizzard Beach.
