Day 2.
Playstation Jorge & Whispering Canyon.
We awake, predictably, at 4am and spend a couple of hours snuggling together under the covers watching general rubbish on TV. Finally, at 6am we get up and I go for a shower. Try as I might I cant get the thing to work, all my efforts are only rewarded with a slow trickle of water. Jorge tries to help but also fails so we end up taking turns to bathe in the tiny tub with 6 inches of water. Weve also forgotten the shampoo so end up sharing one titchy bottle between the three of us! Some considerable time later we are finally ready and leave the hotel after reporting the faulty shower at reception. Its still only 7.30 and we have time to kill so we head for Golden Corral and stuff ourselves silly with their breakfast buffet. As its early everything is fresh and the restaurant is lovely and quiet. A drive down the 192 brings us to our Management Company on the dot of 9am and they replace our forgotten villa keys with a spare set while trying (not very hard!) to keep straight faces! Hey, buddy, it could happen to anyone!! OK?!
Jorge has decided that a welcome addition to the villa would be a Playstation 2 he says we need it give the children some entertainment - so we drive up Orange Blossom Trail to Costco in search of a bargain. We are members of Costco in the UK and use it often, so when we arrive its a bit weird as the layout in the US is exactly the same as at home. The Playstation is obtained along with two games at $259.00 (Jorge assures me that this is an excellent price!) We got a bit of a shock at the checkout though, as they wouldnt take Visa which all of our credit cards are. Luckily we had just enough cash on us to avoid total embarrassment. We will have to find an ATM soon though. A stop at Walmart provides us with a TV ($79) and storage cabinet (only $30) and we are finally off to the villa to unpack..
Once we arrive Jorge sets about unpacking and constructing the Playstation and cabinet.
Rebecca and I take a trip to Publix to stock up on lifes necessities (Beer, Wine & Pringles) and when I get back an hour later the Playstation is all set up on the floor and he is playing away in earnest while the cabinet remains resolutely in its box. Apparently he had to test the games first Pull the other one Jorge!!
After a relaxing dip in the pool its time to leave for our 6pm PS at Whispering Canyon Café. We arrive at Wilderness Lodge with time to spare and take a look around the magnificent lobby. Wow! Is all I can say, this place has to be seen to be believed and we wander around in awe for a while before following the noise to WCC. We register our arrival at the desk and are seated immediately at a window table slightly out of the action. Jorge and I order the All U Can Eat Skillets while Rebecca settles for her usual Mac N Cheese. The skillets are OK, not the most memorable of meals though. Our waitress fills Rebecca in on the details of the pony races and she happily eats her M&C while waiting. There is plenty going on to keep us amused, the family at the next table to us seems to be having a great time with their waiter who is clearly insane. He bellows constantly at the top of his voice while pouring piles of straws on everyones head and insulting them in a variety of ways. I am quietly pleased that he is not waiting on us but DH looks on enviously and I can tell that he is a bit disappointed with our matronly waitress. He tries asking for the ketchup though, which she duly announces to the entire restaurant and seconds later we have a table laden with about 10 bottles of the stuff so this cheers him up a bit. Pony time arrives and Rebecca takes her place with about 40 other children. It is too busy for this to be a proper race and they make it more of a leisurely trot around the tables. After the race our waitress makes Rebecca a red Indian hat out of her napkin and some straws. Then comes the bit I have been waiting for all the gentlemen are invited (or forced by threat of humiliation) to form a circle and are ordered to sing My little Buttercup followed by a little dance routine. Hilarious. I would go back again to see this bit alone. Jorge does admirably well and rejoins us to share a hefty slice of chocolate cake to finish the meal. The bill comes to $85 including tip. We have enjoyed the whole experience of WCC but could take or leave the food. Good choccy cake though!!
On the way out we stop at the Wilderness Lodge shop to buy a fridge magnet. Rebeccas holiday money is burning a hole in her pocket and she splurges $25 on a pin lanyard with 5 pins - monster pin trader is born!! This new hobby eventually will eat its way through all her holiday money and most of ours too!!
We are home by 9pm and enjoy a quick dip in the pool before our nightly ritual begins of a glass of wine, some channel surfing and then bed.
