sudden panic

Best way to avoid the rain is hit the ground running as early as possible. One thing about Florida is that you can just about set your watch to the 3 p.m. shower. It will at that point rain and then stop somewhere around 4. Best way around it is if there's EMHs that day to schedule a break around 2:30, just beating the traffic back to the hotels. Also, schedule your ADRS around 5, so that by the time you're done, you can head back to the parks after the rain has let up.

Of the four parks, EPCOT is generally best on rainy days since 95% of their attractions are not rain-affected.

My 2 cents is to keep it and still go!

Mom, 1 sister and I went on a weekend trip once where it rained the entire time. And honestly, it was one of my most memorable trips to WDW. We wore the dorky ponchos and laughed the ENTIRE time. Granted, none of us were as young as your little ones.

But that just means more puddle jumping for them - and really short lines for water rides!! :woohoo:

You can't predict or control the weather. Just go, have fun and make the most of it if it does rain! Luckily, Disney magic doesn't dissolve or melt in the rain ;)

In 2002 when we were there for 7 days, we experienced rain mostly all day all except one of the 7 days (and not just light rain, at times each day, it was heavy with lightning at times, too!).The area had just come out of a dry spell. Even the street at CSR kept flooding. We had a GREAT time. The parks were uncrowded and almost all rides were walk ons. When it rained really hard, we went into the stores to shop or to eat. Good thing I had a few pairs of shoes to switch out during the trip. We also had distinctive raincoats (White Sox and a teal one) to be able to recognize each other. Otherwise, everyone had on the Disney yellow ones. It was a fun trip!!!

I live in cetral Florida, but still stayed at SSR in June one year to get to Star Wars weekend events early. It's typical for a thunderstorm to cool things down in the late afternoon. Just make sure you pack rain ponchos and you will be fine.

With any luck, it will rain while you are inside and you'll come outside to less humidity and more comfortable temps.

Our stay at SSR in June was one of my favorite stays at Disney!

We went the same week last June. It may have rained once, maybe. In Florida in the summer, it's going to rain. You can't plan the weather no matter what time of year.

We live in S Fla and go often. Rain and unpredictability is a normal part of Fla weather. We were there last May 9th for a week, rained only a little but the weeks before and after were rained out. That was not the norm for that time of yr. Went Mem Day weekend and got stuck in downpour of hours for 2 days that weekend-again,unusual. Back again 1st wk of June for Dad's bday-rain started around 2 and went for hours. These are all out of the norm. We go the same times every yr so we have a good idea of the "usual" weather but the last yr was flukes. You would have to eliminate half the yr to avoid the short afternoon shower that is a daily evnt in Fla. I would not change anything but bring the umbrellas , flipflops and ponchos.

After months of planning, a villa at Saratogo, 7 character ADRs, a fully scheduled 8 days of activities (including Star Wars weekend for my Star Wars CRAZY kids), and I just realized how rainy June is in Florida. This is supposed to be the vacation of a lifetime. First time for me, DH, 4 kids (ds8, ds6, dd4, ds4) - to celebrate my 40th. Now I'm seriously considering changing plans to later this year, or even next year [currently scheduled for June 10-18]. Am I crazy to go? Crazy to reschedule? I don't mind a little rain, but I just can't imagine having fun with 4 young kids while being dripping wet for a week! And I certainly don't want to pay $$$ to spend time in a hotel room hoping for clearing skies. HELP!!!!!!

There really is no way to predict what the weather will do, you can only plan for the extremes and hope you get the best.

We went the first full week of December last year which is typically, in our experience anyway, not very rainy. Let me tell ya, it rained every single day we were there. I always keep our ponchos with us, regardless of the time of year, so the weather didn't really slow us down much.

They don't have SWW at other times of the year so that right there is reason enough to not change your current plans. :yoda:

My first trip to Disney World was a month ago--beautiful weather for five of six days at the parks. The other? Solid rain, dawn to dusk. It was so tempting to just sleep in, but off we went anyway. Our conclusion? Magic Kingdom is fantastic on a rainy day!

We arrived a few minutes after the park opened to no lines at the bag checks or turnstiles, cheerful cast members ("It's your lucky day, we turned Magic Kingdom into a water park just for you!"), and no waiting whatsoever for almost all of the attractions--walked on to Peter Pan (a 40+ minute wait a few days prior), had a Pirates boat to ourselves, and in a half day we accomplished as many attractions as we had on a previous full day. So go, and don't stress about the weather--you'll have a great time.

You have a chance of rain all the time in Orlando we have been there in June and it rained every afternoon but we would put on our ponchos and keep at it. Actually we enjoy it when it rains some because the parks clear out and you can get on the rides much faster instead of waiting in line. Go with the flow and have a good time. Some of my best memories of wdw is running from ride to ride through the rain with my teenage daughters soaked all the way through.

I'll say I've never been in June...but I've gone in July. True it rains in the afternoons, may even pour, but it's only for a short time. It actually feels good to get cooled off and everything (including people) dry really fast.

I can understand how you wouldn't want your kids to get soaked...there are plenty of shops and indoor rides to experience. If there is a day in the forecast that seems particularly rainy maybe plan a day at downtown disney where you'll just be in stores...or in Epcot as they have a lot of indoor exhibits (you can kill a lot of time in the land, eat there and do all the rides...).

Honestly I think the crowd levels would be more of a concern than the weather. It will be hot and glorious. Personally I don't mind the crowds...and I wouldn't reschedule. It's Disney and it will be wonderful!

I agree you truly can not predict the weather and many go on rain or shine.

We were there June 2 years ago. It did rain, but we had our ponchos and kept going. Lines were shorter and it even cooled off, a little. As my Mom always said, "It's liquid sunshine!" Go, have blast and keep going.

Two things I find really help, flip flops or Crocs, they dry quicker than sneakers. And a plastic bag to put ponchos in when you take them off. This keeps your other stuff you may be carrying, dry.

I wouldn't change your plans! Our first trip we went during Hurricane Season in early Sept and I had planned on showers every day,and it only rained one afternoon when Hurrican Hannah went through.

This year, however, I had planned on a mild February and it rained for half of our trip on top of it being cold. I'd rather have a rainy June, then a cold, rainy February any day! Prepare for the worst, but expect the unexpected. The weather in Florida has been very unpredictable the last few years...Even if it rains every day, you will still have a great time. You'll be in WDW!
