ARRRGGGHHHHH

Dh has pain this weekend -a reoccurance of an issue last summer-then it was bad
He plans to go to rehab for a few weeks

trip in 6 weeks

We don't to Rock and Roll or Tower of terror

I LOVE the 2 rides -Splash mount and the Mountain roller coaster there-would these hurt his back?

To me the one we should skip is Space Mountain????
And Mt Everest-dang-that's our fave:worried:

I think BTMRR would be one to skip with back pain, it's so bumpy. Not sure about Splash.

I hope he feels better soon :)

Splash mountain is not a real bouncy ride but it's low to the ground and doesn't offer much back support on the ride so depending on where his back pain is you might want to skip this ride as well.

Dinosaur can be pretty jarring, so you might want to take it off your list. KS also can bounce you around. Even Test Track is a bit rough with some of the starts and stops. BTM and Space Mtn are probably no gos as well.

Hope your hubby is feeling much better before your trip.

Definitely Space Mountain! I don't have a bad back and even after I ride that, I feel a little "creaky". I love it thought, so I keep going! :goodvibes

I would say the number one ride to avoid in my opinion is Dinosaur! I am prone to back problems and I was not expecting the ride to be so violent on the back. It is a fun ride but it really moves you up, down, side to side and suddenly.

I would rate this higher than the roller coasters. TOT is a piece of cake compared to Dinosaur in my opinion for backs. It was like riding a bull not that I have ever done that.

I had back surgery a few years ago and went to disney 6 weeks after. Yes avoid dinosaur, but also safari. Î made the mistake of doing safari and it was terrible because of the bumps and we were also in the back. Roller coasters completely avoid, along with anything that will shake you back and fourth. I didn't ride much that trip and had to avoid my favorite TOT too. But the pool felt nice.

I concur that safari is an overlooked ride that is bad on the back. Long ride- lots of jostling on the road- its no rollercoaster but it can be a problem if you have a bad back.

Everyone is a bit different in this regard. I ruptured a disc in my back several years ago, a few months before our summer vacation to Disney. I opted to NOT get surgery done on my back, and have lived with it since.

That first year, I rode the Safari in AK, and was in horrible pain through the entire ride. At the end, I had all I could do to stand up and get out of the bus. Big Thunder Mountain bothered me a bit, but not nearly like the safari did. I honestly can't think of anything else that year that really got to me, though I didn't ride Space Mountain, Dinosaur, TOT, RnRC, or EE.

Since that trip, I have done the safari many more times with little to no discomfort. Big Thunder Mountain rarely gives me any trouble, and when it does, it is minor, and short lasting, not enough to discourage me from riding. EE didn't bother me a bit, nor did the new Seven Dwarves Minetrain. I still haven't done Dino, and don't intend to, same with ToT. RnRC I had planned to try this summer, but we didn't have the chance.

I think what it comes down to, is DH is going to have to go try some things, and learn what he can tolerate, and what is a no no.

DH has back trouble, so I asked him. Definitely avoid Space Mountain. I doubt I would do BTMRR, just because it's kind of bumpy. At AK I wouldn't do the Safari or Dinosaur, they are just too bumpy. DH was very uncomfortable during Dinossaur. Priveval Whirl bothered him too, it may have been the whipping action. He doesn't really have a problem with Everest or Rock n Roller, I guess where they are smooth it doesn't bother him.

To him a lot of it is being familar with the ride and knowing what to expect and where to hang on so it doesn't jolt you.

This is a tough one. Before our last trip I asked DMIL and DFIL what they wanted to skip ride wise. DMIL has recurring pain from a car accident several years ago and DFIL was recovering from surgery (doctor cleared him). She told me the would ride anything. We got there and they went on BTMRR and decided their tolerance was much less than anticipated. DMIL tried Splash once and never again. I think the getting in and out of the vehicle was the most painful part. DFIL rode it a few times with no issues. Then when we got to animal kingdom they insisted on riding dinosaur. I figured it would be a disaster but they both said it was the most comfortable ride they had been on in all of WDW. :confused3 They wanted to ride it again!

My point is the things that you may not expect to cause problems, may and the things that you would expect to be painful, may not. The rides they skipped were RnR, TOT, EE, KRR, Space, Barnstormer & Astro Orbiter. The rides they regretted going on were Splash for DMIL, BTMRR & Test Track.

This sounds like me. I have a lower back herniated disc, but through physical therapy was able to reduce the pain to negligible with a persistant numbness in my little toe. Other than the occassional muscle cramp in my leg, it really doesn't bother me that much. Doing the PT is VERY important though and before a WDW trip I usually do a bit extra to make sure my back is in shape.

Now, of course, I'm not supposed to be riding any rides with a back problems disclaimer, but I do. They very rarely bother me. The two I am quite careful about are RnRC and Mission: SAPCE: Orange Team More Intense Training. I can do Green Team Less Intense Training all day though, but one ride on Orange, and I am DONE. My back will be screaming at me for that! I know the G-forces are not good for it, so I tend to avoid. RnRC is also a once per visit ride, and isn't really that bad if I don't ride it back to back.

I have had two lower back surgeries to fix a herniated disc as L5S1. The second was a moth after a WDW trip two years ago. As a result, I am VERY conservative about what I ride and what I avoid. I know it's not what you want to hear, but to be on the safe side, I would skip any rides with disclaimers. A little bit less fun at WDW perhaps, but nothing compared to back surgery.

Take care and have a great trip.

PS - my husband doesn't miss any rides- I am happy for him to ride without me while I troll for the best adult beverages in the area.:thumbsup2

Kinda hard to say. I've been on pirates and bumped good enough from another boat that I would imagine even that might be a problem depending on his level of pain.

A few years ago, I threw my back out about a month before my trip. I avoided most of the roller coasters. The ride that was the worst though was quite unexpected - we were on the Mad Hatter teacups and I thought I was going to die. My brother was spinning the cup quite fast so that must have been it, but wow!

Splash is pretty smooth, only occassionally hitting the sides and it was small bumps.

Space mountain is the main one I'd avoid - my back acts up every time I ride it.... I think you'll be absolutely fine on Thunder Mtn and Splash. Rockin Roller Coaster is unbelievably smooth so that one actually wouldn't likely be a problem, if you wanted to ride it. I stayed off it for many trips (afraid) and I finally went and now I love it and it doesn't bother my back at all! I was SO surprised.

Definitely skip Space Mountain. The tossing from side to side, the drops that pull you off your seat and slam you back down. Combine that with the way you have to sit, and you're begging for back pain.

I've had lower back problems in the past. I was good until I rode SM. I was in pain for a good 2 hours afterward.

NO SPACE MOUNTAIN!!!! :)

MY DH now thinks he can ride Expedition Everest
His back is almost perfect
Still does stretches occasionally-when his back tightens up

its been a few years since we rode this=any opinions???

I think splash would be fine but as someone with chronic back pain I can't do space mountain nor BTMRR w/o paying for it (increased pain). They are both really jerky.
