Such competition with a 156 month old

My snowflake will be 156 months old this month and all of my friends think this is some kind of big deal. We are just planning a simple dinner at a favorite restaurant. From what I can see on Facebook this summer, 156 months is like some milestone birthday that must be celebrated in some over the top fashion.

What did everyone else do?

when my boy turned 156 months old, all we did was dinner and games at Dave and Busters with a couple of his friends. Nothing over the top on this end :)

When I was that age, not much. I had my two best friends over for a sleepover. No family celebration. Those stopped in early elementary school.

Huh? 156 months, is that some weird American thing?

I dropped my guy off at the movies with a couple of his friends, which is what he wanted. We also went out for dinner on his birthday with close friends, and we also had a family get together.

Probably over the top, but my family don't live nearby and it's difficult to get people together.

My DD had a pool party. It's what she wanted. We didn't treat that milestone any differently than any other birthday.

I can't remember exactly which birthday it was - possibly the 156th month or 13th year, but it could have been any other - we rented out a room in a local theatre and my son and a few of his friends got to play X-box on the big movie screen. It was surprisingly reasonable, price-wise, and came with pizza and drinks. I think the theatre was having problems filling seats during afternoon matinees anyway and didn't want to have to play movies to an empty room.

Other birthdays were held at laser tag facilities, glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, etc...

Why is 13 such a big deal? I know they officially become teenagers but I don't know of anyone who makes a big deal about turning 13.

Does your snowflake identify as a male or female? The answer will be required before I can properly recommend what to do moving forward.

Ok...my child recently turned 156 months and I had to calculate. Lol

For her we just had a couple of her friends over for pizza and cake. No biggie. We did take her to Red Robin as well as a family since we had a free birthday coupon.

Yeah, the age in months and the use of "snowflake" was a dead giveaway this this thread was tongue-in-cheek.

We didn't do anything different for our kids 13th birthdays than we did for the other birthdays. A small get-together for each. DS was probably at paintball or lasertag (see how big of a deal it was - I honestly can't remember what we did, lol!) and DD had her friends over to the house for a sleepover.

Nothing special - never heard of anyone else doing it either - just a general feeling of the child excited to become a 'teenager'!!
Actually, I remember the feeling I had - many moons ago!! :D

A friend of mine had a spa slumber party for her daughter's 13 birthday party. She bought some facial masks, sliced a cucumber (to put on your eyes), and bought some lotions, and different manicure/pedicure supplies. She said it was surprisingly cheap and that the girls had a lot of fun experimenting with the different products.
