Success rate for requesting a table for two?

I know that there are no tables specifically designed for two diners in the man dining rooms, but have read that you can request to be seated alone on your reservation. It will be just my wife and I on our 5/15 Dream sailing and I'd like to have some quite time with just the two of us. I was wondering if anybody has had success in requesting tables for two at dinner?

My wife and I have been on a couple cruises on our own and like to dine alone (personal preference). We've been able to get a table to ourselves by going to Wavebands/Studio Sea/(wherever it is on the dream) to request tables to ourselves. It's never a guarantee but we've had success with it. My husband and I just sailed on the Magic in January, and were able to get a table to ourselves. We went and made our request as soon as we were on board. The crew member we spoke to said it probably wouldn't be possible, but two hours later we had a message on our stateroom phone saying our request had been met.

My DH and I are wondering about a table for two also for our October 30 Dream cruise. Does anyone know if it helps to contact DCL with the request beforehand or just wait until we're onboard?

We just got off the 2/6 Dream cruise and my fiance and I had our own table. I was very surprised! Being in the late seating may help, there were 3 empty tables around us on all nights (2 tables of 8 and 1 table of 4). I don't think the late seating is as popular as the early.

Yes, you will have more luck with late seating than early seating, and if you are flexible with your dining rotation.

If you are concierge, you are pretty much guaranteed to get what you want. If not, have your TA make your request on your reservation and then follow up on the ship as soon as you board.

Ok, so my wife and I are a bit more social, is there a way to make sure we are not seated by ourselves?

On our two night cruise, our fellow diners only showed up for one meal. (the next night one couple had Palo and the other went back to their room and slept through dinner). Niether couple showed up for breakfast on the last day, which was when they all were going to give the tips, so hopefully they still got their tips.

You can call DCL and request you be seated at a large table. Or have your TA do it for you.

On 2/3 Dream cruise, after boarding we went to D Lounge at the last minute, just before 3:30PM I think, and no one was there except 2 CM's, and we had no problem changing to a table for two (4 top). We had great servers, all three, and felt bad for them as another of their tables wasn't full. So we tipped them well. Yes, that was late dining. It made me wonder what happens when you request a table for two. Was that a table that was empty, or did four people get moved somewhere else, which may be doing the servers a disservice.
