I've finally succeeded in attracting a hummingbird! I am so excited. He's buzzed around the feeder for about a week and last night he finally stopped and took a drink. I took a couple of digital pics but couldn't get close enough so you can't even see it. I'll keep trying though. I feel like a brand new mama. :cloud9:

Very cool, Mary! I love hummingbirds. Your post reminded me that I have yet to hang our feeders at the new house- a project for tomorrow! :D

Truthfully, I don't even know if I've ever seen a hummingbird!

I hope you'll enjoy yours!

Hope more follow! Was it a male or female? What kind of Hummingbirds are in your area.

We only have one type usually unless we get one that has flown off course.

Very cool, Mary!! :)

No hummers, but we have a couple of big fat Robins nesting somewhere in the yard, and using the birdbath several times a day! I keep grabbing my camera to take a pic, but they seem to know what I'm up to, and take off. :)

I think it is a male Rufous Hummingbird. He is rust colored. My book says we have Rufous, Anna's & Black-Chinned Hummers here but this is the first one I've seen. This is a picture of a Rufous that I found online. I'm still trying to get a picture of MY Rufous. I'll post it if that ever happens.

I saw one come and check out my feeder this mornign, but I think the saws, hammers, and construction guys was just to much for the little guy. maybe he'll come back when things quiet down later.

mary...hope you are successful getting a great picture.

Mary while I don't know the birds in your area. I doubt this is a hummer. The beak is too fat. I think its a Rufous sided Towhee.

Rufous Hummingbird

Mamu: The picture I posted was an example of a Rufous Hummingbird from the internet. I haven't been able to take a good picture of the one that is visiting me yet, but I will.

Oh! I was gonna say: GREAT SHOT!!! But then, I get taken in alot like that. There was the time Snowwark posted some picture of some beautiful plant and I thought it was a picture taken in her own garden. It was not.

Congrats on spotting your hummingbird. Now, good luck in getting a real live shot of him.

Pardon my ignorancf! Figure I need to do 3 things clean my screen, get stronger glasses or stop thinking I know it all, LOL.

I can see his beak, this dodo thought the black feathers under his beak was his beak. Think I'll go read up on birds, quite obvious I need a refresher course. LOL.

 I was pretty sure the picture I posted was a hummer but then you had me thinking it wasn't. Either way, I got a picture of the real thing last night. I'll post it when I have a chance.

You are going to post the picture on this thread, right? So we don't miss it? I hope to get time to check all the posts I missed recently and I see on the 17th you said you would post it as soon as you can. I guess you are busy having a life! Good for you but don't forget us who wanna see!! :D
