I was at WalMart this evening specifically to use some coupons that were to expire today. I bought only items that I use regularly and had a coupon for each item. I even added the coupons up before I got in the checkout line.
The past few times I have had the feeling that I wasn't getting credit for all the coupons I handed over to the cashier. I try to watch closely, but still the total never seemed right. This time, I watched closely and thought she missed one. She was so quick though that she finished the transaction before I could question her. As soon as she hande me the receipt I added up the coupons. It was easy since I had three free items, 4 $2, 3 $1 and 1 $.75. Sure enough one of the $1 was missing. :sad2: I decided to take a stand, after all, the store gets credit even though I didn't. I found a CSM and questioned what should I do in the future. She took me right over to the register and asked the cashier for the coupons. It took her a minute, but she found the error and had the cashier hand me $1. :thumbsup2 Now had it been 10 or 25 cents, I may not have said anything, but $1::yes::

Just thought I would share that sometimes it does pay to speak up.

I often check out with 20-30 coupons. If I have any free items, I always hand those over first. Those are also the last items I put on the belt, and note the price. This makes it easier for them to find the price if their POS system does not have auto recognition software.

Then for my regular coupons, I put them in order so they vary by amount a .35 coupon then a $1, never the same amount back to back. Then I will hand the cashier about 10, watching as they are scanned to make certain they come off my bill. I will hand over the next 10, until they are all done.

I was a cashier at a grocery store in college and I know I often missed coupons for people.

Please note, I always let someone line jump ahead of me with a quick few items, and often warn people in line behind me that I have a slow order...you know in case they missed the overflowing cart.

I generally plan at least 35 minutes for check out--I volunteer at a food pantry and am the master at getting them stuff with my coupon/sale combo's. My friend is a social worker for our county, and she had me give a presentation to people who receive food stamps (the Link card) in our area. They are always greatly amazed at my ability to feed a family so inexpensively, in our area the key is a $1 Sunday newspaper...I am not an internet coupon person.

Glad to see Walmart made good on your $1.
