DH & I are trying lunch at San Angel in Sept. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food - going mostly for DH and the atmosphere. Does anyone know if you can substitute the refried beans for something else? Mashed potatoes, fruit, nachos......anything other than refried beans or an extra side of Mexican rice? Also, what exactly is flan? Thanks :flower3:

Flan is a custard, usually prepared in an individual fluted pan so the sides look "ruffled" (yeah, like the potato chips :teeth: )

You SHOULD be able to substitute any other availaible side item, but some restaurants just plain don't allow it.

Another refried bean and rice disliker! Which is why I always order ala carte at Mexican restaurants.

At Disney World, my husband substitutes his sides all the time. If there is nothing else listed on the adult menu as a side that you like (on ANY entree item), look at the kids menu. I just did and they list mixed vegetables and fruit cup as sides on there. You should be able to ask for those instead.

Honestly, at any restaurants, Disney or not, as soon as my husband says "you can keep the *fill in the blank* because I'm not going to eat it", the server will offer up several other options. Just ask.

Last year we ate at San Angel with my in laws who are not mexican fans. (They said they were mexican fans but I guess they did not realize real Mexican is not Taco Bell or Chi Chis) Anyway, they were able to get steak, (without the sauce that comes on it and some very "normal" sides, although I can not remember what they were. The CM was more than accomadating.

This place was hands down the worst dining experience at WDW, or anywhere for that matter. I wouldn't be suprised if they refuse to serve you alternatives, or if they tell you they would and then dont.

Um, why do you feel that way? Specifics would help understand why you felt that way and why you think the servers won't be as accommodating as anywhere else in Disney World.
