Sub appetizer for entree on DDP

Can you substitute an appetizer for an entree on the dining plan? On some menus the appetizers are more appleaing to me then the entrees. Would I be able to order an appetizer as my entree.

The best answer to this is maybe, or maybe not. It depends on the restaurant. Some are more strict than others. (Via Napoli is very strict about this. They generally stick to the letter of the plan. Chefs de France may be, as well, on this particular issue, I remember reading one review that said they weren't allowed to order two appetizers on the deluxe, instead of an appetizer and an entree.)

If you are not allowed to sub, you could always just pay for the app OOP and then save your credit for another meal.

the only tip i can give is I know I have done an app as an entree a couple times at Cali grill. I've never tried elsewhere, but it worked there! So like Nala said, its hit or miss but Cali is a hit!

My neice was able to get an appetizer instead of the entree at The Wave.

I think you'll have better luck at the Disney owned restaurants, such as Cali Grill and The Wave, which tend to be much more liberal with the requirements of the dining plan than the non-Disney owned places such as Via Napoli and Chefs where they are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the plan. At those venues, if the item is an appetizer, even though you want it in lieu of an entree, the restaurant wouldn't be reimbursed so it's unlikely they will let you do it.

As a PP suggested, you could pay for your meal OOP and save that credit for a 2 credit dinner show or signature restaurant.

I did this at Le Cellier in Aug 2010. Had the duck starter, it wasn't a problem for them.
