Stylish way to carry your camera

Just got a Black rapid knock-off. $14 and works great. I love it. Have added a place to carry extra Card. Carry my extra lens ion a light weight mesh back, speeds up bag checks. Usually I try to do a single lens. Like the challenge of shooting with limits. It also helps me find new angles and items to shoot. Cannot wait to do a day withy 70-200 only.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just visited the site and ordered the sling strap, wrist strap and the security straps (just cuz I am paranoid)....looking forward to compairing to my Black Rapid.
Glad to hear it, I hope you like it.

I just stumbled across my old R-Strap when doing some cleaning of old camera cases... I hadn't missed it at all. :) We do still have one of my wife's K-x but honestly the poor camera hardly ever gets used... usually she'll grab the Q, WG3, or just that darn phone!

I just came across this thread. I carry a Canon Rebel and was going to get just a better strap cover, but realized that when it is around my neck - it bounces off my belly while walking. This OpTech strap mentioned - is this the utility sling strap? It looks like this would hold it on my hip instead - which would be great!

I got a few things that help me carry my equipment around the parks.

First, a great gift from my wife:

This helps me keep my camera close to my body instead of the lens sticking out and people bumping into it or me accidently bumping into things.

I bring a lot of equipment with me when I travel, this is what I use to carry my equipment when I fly:

And this sling, I throw in my luggage and use it to bring what Im gonna use for that day at the parks.

My wife also bought me a comfortable strap which helps when I have the camera hanging from my neck.

Yes, these put the camera at your hip. You still have a strap going over your belly but you don't get bruises from the camera bouncing off you with every step! I find it far more comfortable and convenient.

I pulled out one of our R-Strap straps the other day as I was having a friend use our second DSLR and remembered one of the downsides to it - it moves around a lot on your shoulder. The Op/Tech does a much better job of staying in place. To be fair, the camera slides up and down the R-Strap more easily and the tripod mount means that the strap is a little more out of the way, but that tripod mount thing still makes me a tad nervous and is in the way when you use a real tripod. That location also makes it worse for holding the camera in portrait mode than the Op/Tech, which mounts to one of the normal shoulder strap lugs. At least, that's been my experience...

I use a Black Rapid Strap for the camera itself. I have a variety of bags that I may take with me. The secret that I have learned is to pack for the day. So, if I am going to AK, I will take a long lens. If I am not going there, it stays in the hotel. Flash stays in unless I am going out for the night. Nifty fifty is always with me. This way I can keep the weight of my bag on the lower side.

Black Rapid strap works really great, especially if you're not carrying around any extra lenses.

Back when I had a Canon Rebel T4i I could whip it up, turn it on and take the shot all with my right hand, then let it sling back to my side.

Now with my dopey-stupid Canon 6D the power switch is on the other side requiring two handed operation... :rotfl:

When I do have extra lenses with me I carry around a canvas messenger style bag with a velcro latch and keep everything in that. I always start out keeping the Canon in there too but most times it ends up on my neck via the BR strap.

I never turn my 6D off and walk around all day in the parks. Sometimes i remember to recharge before we go back out at night and sometimes I don't. Never had a problem. Why do you turn it off and on? The 6D (or almost all other Canon DSLRs for that matter) uses almost no battery when it's sitting idle. I don't even have power save on.

Once you have a Black Rapid (for touring), you will never go back to anything else.

I've drug around a 6D with a 2.8 70-200 for multiple days. I generally keep my had on it but I do that when I'm carrying it with a 50 1.8 too.

Hi there!

I am relatively new in the dale arena. I've seen a sling strap online that looks like it has two loops to hold the camera so that it doesn't have to hang upside down. Do any of you know how large these straps go? Will any of the straps work for a large woman without having to add a bunch of extensions? The extensions make me nervous ( more clips to chance breaking).

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I use the Kelly Moore Songbird bag, and it's perfect!

I do have my camera out most of the time when I am walking around, but I like to have something padded to stick it in on some of the rides. I have carried this bag around with me all day and it doesn't hurt my shoulders at all!

It doesn't hurt that the bag has a bunch of different zipper pockets to keep my personal stuff in when I travel too.

Based on recommendations from this board I bought one of the Black Rapid straps last year before my trip. I loved it! I keep my camera out 90% of the time beginning at bag check, so this strap works well for me. I do have to be careful though not to knock into things.

I also, like previous posters, bought one of the Vera Bradley Backpacks and that is definitely my new favorite park bag. I can put my Canon SL1 with a fairly big Tamron 18-270 lens attached in it nicely for going on the big rides.

I pack the camera in one of the ugly, clunky bags in my carry-on luggage for my flight, but then use the VB while at Disney.

Oh, one other thing, I was able to keep the camera on the BR strap at my hip and still carry the backpack using on the same shoulder. I seldom wear it as a true backpack.
