Just read that they are expecting about 250,000 people to attend this year with no mask requirement. I cannot believe that many people are that crazy that they just HAVE to be there this year and can’t skip a year. Anyone else think it should have been cancelled?

Let me say that I think all large gatherings should be curtailed; however, if it's predominantly outdoors and in some open spaces, it might be okay. Think back to the protests. I remember watching them on TV and thinking, OMG, this is not going to go well AT ALL and I figured there would be this awful surge in cases; however, that didn't seem to be the case and my layman's rationale would attribute that to being outdoors and having the majority of people masked up.

This rally will be another "one to watch" to see how the virus behaves. All we can do is hope for the best and hope the outdoors helps and doesn't leave any seeding in the local area.

I have a friend who lives in SD and she's very upset. The governor there doesn't take C19 seriously and doesn't want to require masks anywhere. My friend's daughter will be going to college right near Sturgis, which I think currently has a low number of cases, and she's afraid this may jeopordize the whole return to college for all those students if an outbreak happens. It's possible that there won't be an outbreak since they are mostly outside, but I'm guessing they will have to go inside at some point to restaurants and things, so it will likely cause some cases, I'd think

The thing about this is that it also goes on for more than one day so people will be around a lot of others for an extended multi day time. And they come from all over the country which cannot be good when they all go return to different states.

One report I heard was that 60 percent of the population that lives in the area wanted it cancelled. But those who control the decisions said cancelling would be like a dare and twice as many bikers would show up.

We had local jeep event about a month ago that the organizers cancelled, even had the tee shirts printed with the word cancelled on them and people came anyway.

No scheduled events, but people hung out in parking lots, cruised our coast, ate in our restaurants just as they would have if the organized event happened.

My husband and I drove through sturges a few years ago on an off week from the rally. The inside spaces while large are comprised of bar and dance floor. Based on past pictures it’s a hot sweaty crowded mess. We were just in SD a couple weeks ago for mt Rushmore and I n our way to Wyoming for Yellowstone. The only people with masks on were tourists. And you definitely got the evil eye for a mask because to many it’s a political issue. Lots of God, Guns and Trump tshirts draped in the American flag. Really patriotic Americans would want to protect and take care of each other. My take anyway.

You're right but the problem is that the vast majority of these people will not be wearing a mask.

My husband and I had a short discussion about that whole, crazy, situation. We decided, if we lived in that area, we'd pack up our fifth wheel and head out of town for at least 3 weeks.

Sadly, even if it were canceled, I seriously think that people are going to show up anyway.

It’s up to them. If the city allows the event, then folks will show up.
