I can't speak from personal experience. . . but can only give you my opinion on what might work. I've been looking for a good one for my 4 year old and have pretty much zoomed in to the Disney portable DVD players. They had 4 desings that I know of but 3 have been clearanced out, the princess, the cartoon Mickey, and the Power rangers.
You can still find them in the classic silver mickey design at some retailers, my local Kmart still has them. They're about $100.
The reason I'm looking into these though is it's something my son can put in his lap, it's pretty small, with a small screen. And the major sellign point to me is it doesn't have the dlip up type screen that most DVD players have. I am so worried that he would break one of those types by playing with it - opening and closing it repeatedly (at 4 stuff like that is just too tempting I guess). And it has very minimal controls on the front. . . so not a whole bunch of buttons for him to play with.
Just food for thought.
You can also find the clearanced out styles on eBay, but they're selling for close to original price anyways.

HTH a little

Honestly, I would just go with the cheapest and get a carrying bag for it. I wouldn't get the ones with the swivel screens. They seem delicate. I hate to say this, but in the hands of a 3 year old, it will get dropped at least once. Just my 2 cents.

Just wanted to post that I bought this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/i.../Portable&productId=2106538&fbc=1&tab=summary on Black Friday from Radio Shack. It's the size of a cd player so it will fit in a cheap cd player bag. It also has the screen on the outside which seems sturdier to me for little ones so they aren't dealing with hinged screens. I would absolutely recomend you get the clear sticky film to put over the screen. You can buy it in the camera dept of most stores. RS had four covers for $6. That way, if the screen gets scratched, it's just the film. Take it off and pop on another one. It's a Christmas present for my DD so I haven't used it alot. But I have tested it and it seems to work great. It was $59.99 after rebate on Black Friday which was a GREAT price, but now it's $79.99 AR which is still ok.
