We want to book a trip to London but the exchange rate is $1 to .556 pound as of this date.
would we be stupid to go now? Is the rate likely to go up? Have you ever gone with the rate this low? thanks

One of the main reasons we have held off going back to London is the exorbitant exchange rate.London is an expensive city to start with, but when you are basically paying twice as much as the locals for the pleasure of being there...no thanks. We love the UK,but we'll have to wait and see if the exchange rate gets more favorable. Until then we'll go to Canada or stay in the States.

We are going on a 10day British Iles cruise, followed by 6 nights in London... it is costing a fortune

I realize the exchage rate is horrible but I am not going to change my plans at this point because of it. :confused3

Just go and have a great time, try not to think about it.

From some who currently lives in Europe, if you don't mind waiting then I would. We did London in May 2004 and the exchange rate was bad then as well. I got a great deal on a Marriott but everything else was sky high. All of the cost are the same as in the US, an example if you normally spend 50 dollars on dinner well the same dinner will now cost you 50 British Pounds or almost 100 dollars...so a quick lunch at MC Donalds is about 30 dollars or a dozen Krispy kreme Doughnuts at Harrods...almost 12 dollars.

I am not sure that the dollar will strengthen soon but one can hope.

We loved London and hope to go back.

Not much you can do about it - the exchange rate stinks, has for some time, and probably will for the near term future. The dollar isn't strong now.

If you want to go to London (or anyplace else in Europe - the Euro is .82 to the dollar) then you have to pay! It's that simple. We went to Paris last summer and (with the exception of some places that charges absurd prices) it wasn't too bad.

I am going to London tonight (for business) and even though "they are paying" it is really expensive.
