Stupid Resort Package Question

Sorry to bother you all, but I have a question I hope someone can help clarify for me.

I currently have a package reservation including hotel, dining, tickets and MM. I've decided not to go with the dining plan this time around. I called to change my package to no longer include dining. The CM said that the only way to do that was to cancel and rebook the package. I am 46 days out from my stay and didn't really want to take the small risk of losing my room choice between cancelling and rebooking, I just kept the dining plan and paid off the balance.

It seemed strange to me that I couldn't just adjust my package, but that it would have to be cancelled and rebooked. Was this CM wrong or do I have a misunderstanding? BTW: He seemed very confused with my reservation number and had to put me on hold to verify as he'd never seen that type of number before?? (It was made over the phone with CRO, so directly with disney). So in my mind it seems like it's possible he may not have really understood what he was doing.

Thanks so much for your time and patience!!

Let us know how it turns out. I'm thinking of dropping my dining plan from our package and definitely don't want to rebook.

I would call back as the CM you spoke with is wrong. If you are just wanting to remove the DDP, that could easily be done without having to cancel/rebook. If you wanted to remove both the DDP and tickets, that would be another story. Going from a package to RO (or vice versa) would require the original reservation to be cancelled/refunded and another reservation booked, requiring a new deposit. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. Even though you have paid the balance, you can still call back and have the DDP removed since you are still outside the PIF date by 1 day. Good luck.

Dropped dining from my package at roughly 60 days out with no problem. Dont see why 46 days would be any different. They did say if I wanted to add it again it had to be at least 72 hours before check in.

generally when i've wanted to change some aspect of my package whether it was adding/dropping dining plan or tickets or adding/dropping a discount i did have to actually cancel the package and rebook and it always worked out fine.

I'm glad I went with my instincts and asked :) I called back and was able to drop the dining plan portion of the package (kept tickets and MM). It took the CM a little longer than I expected, but it appears that it went thru fine as MDE shows a package without dining and my reservation number is the same. Slight issue with my refund as the payment I made earlier hasn't yet finished processing, so I'll keep a close eye out on that.

It does depend on if your package included discounts because the dining was included.

Special packages ( like the Free Dining or the Free Memory Maker ) have limited availability. If you want to change something after the package has expired - sometimes it can effect not only the price but availability because a new package has to be booked.

That could be the circumstances in your instance.

I saw that someone did this on another thread last month and lost their FP+ reservations. I would double check and make sure they are all still there. Have a great vacation!!!

Oh my goodness! That would be awful. Thanks for the heads up to look. I just checked and all my FP+ are still there. Whew!
