Hi. I know this is a stupid question but what is the difference between dedicated and lock off when referring to rooms?

the lock off - is that a 1-bedroom and a studio - with the doors between them opened - they still have both outside doors, too.

a dedicated is only a 2-bedroom. So the second bedroom is just that - not a studio - no door to the outside - no balcony - no mini-kitchen - just a second bedroom.

kids are safer in the second bedroom of a dedicated - vs the lock off.... they generally can't get out with you knowing it....

Oh....I thought lock-off was the style of room you'd get for the in-laws and a dedicated room was the type you get for them when you are really dedicated to your spouse. :3dglasses

Dedicated means that it doesn't connect to another room type and is not comprised of two different room types. If it's a dedicated 2BR villa, it will have one exterior entrance, usually will not have a balcony off the second bedroom and will not have a mini-kitchen in the second bedroom. These generally have more storage space where the kitchen would normally be found.

At some DVC resorts there are also dedicated studios (that do NOT connect to a 1BR to make a lock-off 2BR) and 1BR villas (that do NOT connect to a studio to make a lock-off 2BR).

Lock-off units are the individual components that may be combined to create a larger villa. A lock-off 2BR villa will have 2 exterior entrances, a balcony for the 2nd BR and a mini-kitchen in the 2nd BR.

Most DVC resorts have both dedicated 2BR villas and lock-off 2BR villas. BWV has all lock-off 2BR villas, but also has some dedicated studios and, I think, some dedicated 1BR villas. ( Same at VWL and BCV.)

Enjoy!

Do you know what buildings might have dedicated 1 bedrooms at OKW. I would prefer to stay in that than one that connects to a studio.

OKW has no dedicated 1BR villas or studios. Every building has dedicated 2BR villas and lock-off villas (comprised of a studio and connecting 1BR).

If you want a 1BR villa (or studio), it will be a lock-off at OKW.

Here is a <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">building summary for OKW.</a>

Enjoy!

As opposed to a "lock-off", I believe a "throw-off" is the style of room you get for the in-laws. Preferably third floor or higher.

Thanks for the input everyone. We are going to BCV in june/july with BIL & SIL & neice. BIL is my husbands identical twin. My DH, DD &DS have a one bedroom and I got a studio for BIL & SIL. My husband wanted to get a two bedroom for all of us but to be quite honest, I think it's a little too close for comfort for me. :crowded: When DH & his twin brother get together they each regress about 20 - 30 years! I don't think I could take that 24/7. I will definately request that our rooms have some distance between them! Thanks Guys.

Be careful on how you request that. There was a post on this board where someone put on the reservation that they did not want to be near a relative (sister-in-law I believe). Meanwhile, the front desk cm told the relative about the request!

We actually are glad to see that the lock-off's can be requested.Does anyone have any experience with the request of a lock-off??? at OKW or BCV's????

Thanks!!!!

That is terrific, thank-you so much for the info. This solves all my problems about how to break up our point usage. I learn so much on these boards!!!!!

Thanks again!!!
