Having a brain freeze...If I book a trip for April but my points expire March 31 it's ok. Right? The only problem is in the event of a cancellation?

Assuming you have an April use year, an April 2012 reservation could use banked 2011, current 2012, borrowed 2013. If you did not bank the 2011 points and they expire 3-31-12, you could not use them past for a stay past 3-31-12.

ok. so I am making a reservation for march 31-april 6 on points that expire march 31 (april 2011 points). I should bank those now and then make the reservation using banked points?

You will need to bank enough points to cover April 1-6. March 31 points would not have to be banked.

ok. thank you so much. never booked so close to end of use year!!

The good news is that all but the first day of your trip is in the very beginning of a use year. Keep in mind that your entire trip is not in one UY or the other even though it is one reservation.

When you travel over two UY's, it can be a little bit more tricky but the easiest way to remember it for me, is to first figure out the UY the days of travel fall and go from there.

In your case, as mentioned, March 31st takes place in your 2011 UY--therefore you can use banked 2010, 2011 or borrowed 2012 points for that day.

April 1st through the 6th take place in your 2012 UY--therefore, you can use banked 2011, 2012 or borrowed 2013 points for those days.

If your plan is to use 2011 points, then you will have to bank all but the amount needed for March 31st, and then book.

Good luck!

Not all timeshares that use points do it this way. I've checked in the last day of the UY (non DVC) on a couple of occasions using points for the entire trip that would not have been usable at all the next day.

I guess I was thinking this is how DVC worked.

Glad I asked. Thanks to everyone for their replies. I banked the points, made the reservation and everything worked out. It's just too bad that this trip is for my brother not me!!

I'm actually really happy that I can introduce him and his family to DVC. They have done the tour and I think they will want to buy for sure after this trip!
