Stupid pet owners

Why do people do this?? Yesterday I was driving home and was on a busy street. I noticed something go flying out of the back of the pick-up coming towards me. At first I thought it was a paper sack, but then I realized it was a puppy! These people had their little puppy in the truck bed and, of course, it jumped out. Everyone slammed on their brakes and the people jumped out of the truck. Remarkably the puppy wasn't run over, but it had obviously hurt itself pretty badly. The woman in the truck was hysterical, and I would be, too, if my puppy was so injured. But-HELLO-why was a puppy in the truck bed anyway??

:sad2:

Idiots. This is one of my biggest human peeves. I refuse to drive behind a pickup truck that has a dog in it.

My favorites are the ones that are chained. What do those idiots think is going to happen if they slam on their brakes, or hit a bump? The dog is going to fly out and hang itself.

When the pet has more brains than the owner obviously has - something is very wrong.

Not quite as bad, but one thing I hate is when people drive around with their dog in their lap. :sad2:

I wish I knew why people are so unintelligent. I would never put my dog in a the back of a pickup. I would just leave him home. The thought of him jumping out is just one thing that scares me. I would think they could get junk in their eyes or hit with branches if they were hanging over the side. Poor puppy.

Or when the window is rolled all the way down and the dog has its front paws on the top of the door. Hello! You hit a bump and your dog is going to fall out!

I admit, I take Chloe with me in the car several times a week, but she's sitting down in the backseat of my car, and my window is rolled up about four inches. I only roll it down enough for her to stick her snout out.

This is a huge pet peeve with me too. I absolutely hate to see a dog in the back of a truck. The dog has no protection if that driver has to stop quick or gets in an accident. I was a on a first date with a guy once and somehow this topic came up. He said something about, why doesn't my dog ride in the back of the truck. My dog rides inside the cab. I looked at him like he had two heads and thought to myself, no second date for you buddy!

Poor puppy. Not only are my pets in carriers when in the car, but the carriers get belted in. If there was an accident, unrestrained carriers become projectiles.

It breaks my heart to see a pup in the back of a truck. I think what if it rolls over?

I drive with my pup with me all the time. Once when I first got him (almost 8 years ago) he jumped in my arms while going down the road. I broke him of that right quick and he has never done it again. It KILLS me to see people with dogs in their lap while driving.

I followed a friend to her mothers house back in Feb. It was close to a 60 mile trip and she drove down the interstate with not one, but TWO dogs in her lap, going ever bit of 80 or more. I decided as long as I could make out the back of her car. I was ok. As I wasn't getting close to her at all.

Sort of off-topic, but I stopped seeing a guy after the way I saw him treat his dog too. He brought his dogs over to my house and the male marked his territory in my dining room.

I was cleaning it up and it truly wasn't a big deal. I explained that all he did was pee because he smelled Chloe in the house. Well, he goes and grabs the dog by the gruff of his neck, shoves his face in it (cleaning solution at this point), yells at him and spanks him.

It all happened so fast. Almost as fast as me showing him the door. :sad2:

He was a jerk. Now that I think about it, he drove a truck too. I never even questioned how the dogs got to my house.

I couldn't get a carrier for Chloe in my car if I tried. Her carrier would be so big, I could put wheels on it, and drive it probably!

I do have a seatbelt for her, but admit I don't always have it in the car with me. I do need to remember that more often.

Yes, there is such a thing as a "dog test" for men. If they don't pass, I'll show them the door. I had one guy who had to go wash his hands after petting my dog. I just rolled my eyes.

Yeah, they have to pass the food test here. If they keep eating after removing a Golden Retriever hair from their mouths, they're in! :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Seriously, my husband may be more strict with Chloe (she respects the heck out of him!), but he's been around half of her life now, and he loves her as much as I do. I'm lucky!

This happened to my friend's mom when we were in high school. She had their doberman chained up in the back of their El Camino (like a pickup, but closer to the ground). Apparently the chain was too long. For some reason, the dog jumped out & got dragged behind the car. :scared1: My friend's mom was so shaken up she couldn't drive home. The dog was scraped up & bloody, but nothing was broken & she turned out to be fine. But what a scare. Do make sure those chains are short enough!! :thumbsup2
