Thinking about using Disney gift cards vs. carrying a ton of cash with us so here's the stupid question....can I use them ANYWHERE within WDW for anything?

Pretty much, except for some random carts that don't have a setup to take cards but those are few and far between. We do the gift cards and carry a little cash just in case.

Make sure to take pics of your gift card number in case you lose it.

There are some walk around sellers (balloons, light up toy carts on the parade route, etc) and some non-permanent carts that don't have card capabilities so they can't take Disney gift cards, KTTW cards, or credit cards.

Other places that won't take Disney gift cards or KTTW cards include all the restaurants and stores (except the one selling Disney merch) at Swan/Dolphin and Shades of Green and some of the kiosks on the Boardwalk.

Another reason to carry some cash: We were at Epcot one day when the system went down in part of World Showcase and they weren't able to process any cards for a while so all transactions needed to be in cash.

Maybe I'll get a few for our TS meals. Can you use them at QS locations too? Specifically at the World Showcase?

You probably already know this but you can get Disney gift cards at TARGET using their "Red" credit/debit card at a 5% discount. I'm paying off our trip using them and will get more to bring with us to pay for tips etc.

Yup. I took gift cards with me a few weeks ago and used them exclusively for food, table and counter service, in all 4 parks.

Yes, the 5% is deducted from the subtotal of your purchases!

Yes, you can apply at any Target register and will be approved and issued a card number. You can charge using that card number until you actually receive the plastic card. The 5% discount is applied to each transaction but remember to pay off your charge bill each month because their APR is outrageous!!

You can set up monthly auto pay on the website, so that the card is paid in full each month -- no worries about APR charges.

DISers on the cruise board buy gift cards from Target and then pay for their cruise using the gift cards!
The Target discount can increase when their pharmacy is offering additional % off deals and this also applies to Disney gift card purchases.

Target also has a debit card that offers the same 5% discount. This way the money comes straight from your checking account and you don't have a credit card bill to pay off.

The discount is only offered on "entertainment" cards (which are what you posted as examples, although I am not sure on restaurants). Gift cards, which they have for many stores are located in the front of the store and for those you can't get the discount. The terminology Target uses is the key - entertainment cards, yes, gift cards, no.

Yes they do.

What I suggest if you are staying on property is to set up charging to your room. Use your band or KTTW card to charge things to your room and then use the gift cards at your resort to pay off the balance. That way you do not have to carry all the cards around and risk losing them. Just leave them in the safe at the resort and then before you reach your charging limit take them to the front desk and have them apply them.
