Stupid funny question but I would like a answer

want a neat fire........find a hollow log(dry) about 6 feet long.....build a small teepee fire and set the log on end over the top of it.....you'll need to pound a few stakes on each each side to steady it and wrap a few strands of wire around it......the chimney effect is so awesome...........you'll be the talk of the campground...:thumbsup2

Don't forget that when you're at FtW.... open fires are not allowed. You need to use an enclosed fire pit.

If you want to cook using a Dutch Oven....follow Carol's advice (clkelley) and cook over charcoal. (I know this from experience, too)

Or just say the heck with it and do what the rest of us do when we camp..... we go out!!!

When we go to the beach and burn drift wood. I use instalight charcoal it will get wet wood burning and it is very easy.

you can use waded up duct tape or my favorite (small) pieces of tar paper.....

wd40 or starting fliud(extremely flameable).........

I don't care if your friends dare you or not.......never try to burn a Bowling Ball....bad idea......:sad2:

I use the fire starter logs made by Duraflame or
http://www.duraflame.com/aa_products/firestart01.php.

If I am at hunting camp...I soak my wood with diesel fuel first. Works like a charm.
any of the logs like the duraflame you buy for a fireplace seem to work. They burn for a long time which allows for your other wood to catch on. Kinda like having a motor cycle with a kickstart and electric start. Sure, you can kick it until it starts but if you goal is to get it started not how you get there, the start button is easier. Why build a little indian village ( small teepee's ) and slowly progress up to big wood ( which can take a while )when you can light a fireplacelog with big wood in the firepit as well and your done.

I know there is a bunch of joking around here, but please don't use gasoline. It can practically explode when you light it. Charcoal lighter fluid works well, but with damp wood you might use a lot of it.

Learn how to use dry kindling stacked in a teepee shape over newspaper. Dry scrap wood, from a carpenter or wood shop, works great. 2x4 lumber cut about 12-18" and split into 1/2" thick strips work great. Or, DRY firewood split into 1/2" slivers will work.

When starting the fire, everything has to be dry-dry-dry.

P.S. lisa8200's comment about using a Duraflame type log is a good one. You can also slice up the Duraflame log into 5 or 6 pieces, and have starters for multiple fires.

True, gasoline should be a last resort, as it's not really meant to be used as a campfire starter.

Also, when I was in the Boy Scouts, we would keep bags of the lint from the dryer. Just stuff some of it under the wood, light it, it goes up instantly and can normally get even wet stuff going a bit.

Comp B and det cord works like a charm 1st time every time.

Yeah, but then you have to go chase down all the little fires that are burning in a 1/2 mile radius. :lmao: Not to mention, you have to pick parts of logs out of the side of the camper.

Nice musket mickeys in you siggy LOL

I told everyone they could use them... they are saved on my fort wilderness page.... click here
But I am glad someone liked them :lmao:

if your eco fire starter ...........use high fiber cow pie......abandoned peacock nest......or the altimate sacrifice human hair.........(damn does it stink though)........:snooty:

Small woodland creatures dont really do much to help start a fire either....its just an entertainment factor!!!

In all seriousness (rare), steel wool works great! I second the hint about a flare. They work great. Artillery simulators work well too. Every time I ever used one I started a fire (unintentionally)

I vote for fire starter logs. They are great. They come in several different sizes. :thumbsup2

I would recommend not using a small woodland creature. BDR might get you in trouble. :lmao:

I almost forgot........dried PINE NEEDLES.....

Incredibly flameable and are in no short supply around your campsite....:thumbsup2

when I was a kid I would use a can of my sisters hair spray and a match, started lots of fires like that. would not recommend that method now however... Mr. goofy

does any one have a potato shooter.....here....

hair spray is the the propellant of choice....... :thumbsup2

Here's how I build a fire, works everytime, looks great, and lasts a long time without tending to it. (built by a woman too :thumbsup2 , so you know it works) 2 large similarly sized logs laying parallel to each other about 1-2 iches apart (they will act as the base and will keep the fire up off the ground for air circulation up under the fire), followed by 2 SPLIT logs (this is the key, bark is much harder to light, you need the logs to have the wood from the middle exposed) these will lay on top of the 2 base logs in the opposite direction (perpendicular for all you them there scholars out there), between the 2 split logs lying on the base log I put a small fire starter (I use diamond brand Strike-A-Fire but feel they don't strike well so just light with a match). Then if you want to you can add kindling to the middle just over the fire starter. Because I choose base logs with bark, they can last me an entire trip and just add split wood to the top.
