Stupid for joining DVC !!!

What amazes me that these are the same people that go to the shore, beach, mountains every year for a family vacation but they can't understand why I want to do Disney...yet again...haven't you seen it all yet.....NO!!!!

There is always something new and interesting that I haven't seen, not to mention the favorites that I HAVE to do each time.....

DVC lets me do this again and again without to much thought....

I believe the people that just do not understand what a wonderful vacation place WDW is and why someone would make regular, repeat trips there, are the people that think of WDW as just a bunch of theme parks. They are usually people that either have only gone on to WDW once or twice in their lives or if they have gone to WDW more than that it has been trips every 5+ years apart; so when they were at WDW, it was just a bunch of theme parks to them. They probably did the total park commando scene and returned home exhausted, with blisters and thinking "what is the big deal?" Because they were so focused on trying to do it all in the 4 major theme parks they did not even see the rest of the wonderful place WDW is, nor did they have time to sit back and take in the wonderful magical atmopshere. They certainly did not have the time to experience, let alone enjoy, the other parts of WDW outside of the parks. They do not take the time to just relax and take in the whole vacation atmosphere and all there is. WDW is truely a vacation destination that offers sooooo much: wonderful resorts to fit every wish from budget to deluxe, conceirge to home away from home, all types of athletic/sport activities from golfing to parasailing, many wonderful award winning restaurants, health clubs and spas, numerous and various tours, wonderful clubs for adults, extensive shopping, a state of the art movie complex, a world known show--Le Cirque, concerts--House of Blues, water parks and of course the excellent theme parks. On top of all this WDW provides it's guests with the most efficient and customer service oriented organization I have ever experienced anywhere. To me WDW & DVC are truely a home away from home, my vacation and relaxation home!! Why wouldn't I want to go back again and again???

We are sick and tired of friends and family knocking us for joining DVC.

In the end, it really doesn't matter what anyone says. It's something you bought, you and your family get enjoyment out of, and no matter what anyone says it won't change that.

When you think of all the people who have purchased DVC memberships from around the world, and everyone who posts here, you think maybe the friends and family are the ones who might not be all that aware of how good you have it?

Now that we have DVC, my wife and I go to Disney twice a year (maybe three times?).
I have visited most cities in the US, and many in Canada, and the Caribbbean, and a few in Mexico. WDW is by far the best place to be!

I know the feeling. When they ask me I just tell them that it is like being in another world. Nothing else exists while we are on our vacation at WDW. There is always something new or that you missed everytime you are there.

We like going down in Dec. so we can see the candlelight processional. It is so beautiful. There is nothing like WDW with all it's Christmas decorations.

We live in Florida thank God! Otherwise our travel expenses would be outrageous. We go 8-10 trips per year, 1-4 nights each (usually 3-4). We have our Florida Seasonal Passes that mean after the first trip (or two) we are going to the parks for free. We used to bargain hunt around for a good deal on a hotel off site, but realized that we would be paying about the same for a studio on site as we pay for a plain room off. My friend's parents bought a couple of years back, and we thought that it would end up costing us more then it did to bargain hunt for a hotel. Wrong. We have two little boys (3y 7mos and 1y 7mos) and they love Disney. Our older son tells everyone that he is going to WDW in Oct for his B-day party (and then he invites them and says that his mom and dad will take them too and they can stay in our "little cottage" at WDW). The little guy saw Mickey Mouse in the store a couple of weeks ago and said "Mick-me" I looked around and saw a picture of Mickey Mouse on a shoe box and realized he knows who Mickey is, and it's been a month or two since we were last there. We go a lot in fall, Jan, May and early June, fewer crowds. Better weather. (Plus our passes are no good during peak times which works for me b/c of the crowds)
My parents were very happy for us when we bought. They said "Some people boat on w/e's, you guys go to Disney..." We brought them "home" in early March, and they really enjoyed themselves. They are up there right now at the Flower&Garden Show. No, we don't bother telling most people, it isn't any of their business how we choose to spend our $ (and leisure time). I don't ask them why they choose to live in the house they choose to live in, or why they drive SUV's(paying thru the nose for gas and insurance) and I don't expect to be asked why we are always travelling around the world and going to WDW and driving two Corolla's and living in a very nice 38 y/o 2400sq ft 3/3/2 house 1 mile from the beach (instead of out 10-20 miles away from the ocean in a brand new hip neighborhood in a 3500-4000 sq ft house).

Just smile when people ask you why Disney again, and keep the secret to yourself, I don't like crowds. Thanks...:p

WDW is a magical place. Been there at least 40 times before I even joined DVC. So I already had a pattern going.

We joined in 2001 and wish it was since day 1.

We have 3 little kids all under 5. We just don't fit well in a studio and if we did, I don't think on vacation I'd like to go to bed at 7:30pm with the kids.

DVC gave us a chance to get bigger accommodations without paying thousands of dollars every trip. In no more than 6 years we'll get even on our investment. We've already used our membeship 4 times in less than 2 years and have 2 more trips planned in the next year.

DVC was right for us and will continue to be for the near future since our kids are so small. I don't care what anyone says to us or how many times they ask...... they are just jealous we can go on vacation so many times a year and they can't.

.

I guess that I'm lucky because everyone around me says "Wow, you get to go to Disney again!" rather than "Why are you going to Disney again?". So, I don't run into those folks very often. I am a Disney teacher and when people listen they realize how much of a deal and good time they can have by visiting.

I've got no problem sittin' down and makin' sure that someone "gets it".

The people I work with think we "visit my DHs family who have a condo in Orlando". My boss thinks that DVC is not a good investment. Once I heard the "i" word, I knew he would never get it!

My DHs family doesn't even know...

and my sister totally gets it and is really happy we own it. So, the ones that know about it are great. The rest would either be envious, jealous, or pester us for a place to stay. Sad, but true.

Someone brought up a good point.

We specifically don't live in a great big house, because we didn't want to put our money into it. Not important to us.

We specifically don't eat out a lot, because with our family's food allergies, it becomes more of a hassle than a help.

WDW is the place where all of us can go and be comfortable. I have never been fed food anywhere on property that kicks up an allergic reaction (which I can't say for other places - and in my case, that can be life-threatening). It's just the right amount of travel, excitement, and familiarity.

I always say to people, "Well, you have a choice. You can ***** about how much it costs, or you can sit back and admit that WDW does what they do phenomenally well." I know which one I choose.

(did I mention we're now going in January as well as October?)

I know what you mean. We have experienced the same questioning of our fiscal sanity. After owning for 7 years now our family and friends accept it more. I cured my extremely anti-disney brother by inviting him and his family down with us. Now he raves about Disney, the beauty of the complex and resorts, the wonderful friendly employees, the parks, etc. Everything that encouraged us become a DVC member. I have come to say to people that we cannot put a price on what we experience with the DVC club, and the the future that it holds for us. Sure it is not for everyone, but a few times a year we are doing exactly what WE want to do. We work hard for a living and I can't think of a better place to be but where all generations of a family can be entertained, laugh and smile together. Where family members no matter their disabilities are treated with so much respect. My DH and I have decided that this is also for our retirement as we have a lake home we go to every weekend in the summer and are maintenanced out. We are looking forward to a month at Vero in January/February as anything above 20 degrees beats Minnesota.
We look forward to spending time with our DD's and their future husbands, grandchildren, friends and more family wherever the DVC takes us. The DVC is a part of our future! And thats the way we like it!

Another stupid Disney Obsessed DVC'er.

Funny thing the other day my 11 year old dd said to me as she was watching one of the many WDW Vacation Videos " I'll never get sick of that place!"

It was music to my ears! I looked at her and said me neither. It's true those who don't get it never will. I find that rather sad to not want to be apart of something so Magical!

Oh well,
To each their own!

My answer is simply that there is something for everyone in WDW. It's nice to go on a family vacation where everyone will have a good time. Also, Disney is very clean and they make it easy to travel with children. Why should I choose a vacation destination where everyone won't have a good time or where it is difficult to bring children? It just doesn't make any sense.

My wife and I just bought last year, so not too many people have asked about our frequent trips (They haven't begun yet). I'm sure they'll start after two weeks in June and Xmas-New Years. Our son (only child), DIL, and grandchildren understand completely. They love Disney almost as much as we do. Perhaps a simple "It's a Disney thing - you wouldn't understand" would suffice, but that would probably offend. Maybe we should explain that we are actually members of a cult, and can't control our decision-making. We need to be deprogrammed - yeah, that's it!

Everyone has to choose how they want to spend their time and money. We have neighbors who have never been to Disney and say it just costs too much. Yet, they hire a baby-sitter and go out almost every weekend! I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but we just choose to spend our money differently. We only eat out on special ocassions. It is usually not worth the hassle for us, every place you try to go is SO crowded. We cook pretty good at home anyway!!! We also know many people who go to the same lake house or whatever year after year. My kids would get bored with that real fast, believe me! I think you just have to relax to "get" Disney, and some people can't look past the crowds, prices, etc. It is worth it to us!!!

Well we have gone twice a year for two years and are scaling back to once a year max until credit cards are paid off....that said, I don't give a hoot about people who say stuff, esp. my friend who makes crack about me "feeding the Disney corporate machine".
My dad just sighed when he found out we bought, but after we took mom and dad down last July he was blown away! No they didn't buy (73 and 71 w/ some health issues) but they were really impressed! I figure with family, try a trip with them and that will shut them up--"you get all this room?"
