Stupid coffee question

First timer going on a Merrytime cruise in December. I've seen that there are some specialty coffee drinks on the dinner menus. Do those cost extra?

I already scoped out the coffee shop (and heard the advice about a punch card), and hear that they keep drip coffee with the soft drink station... but have also heard that Disney Cruse drip coffee is surprisingly not very good.

Turns out, I'm a bit of a coffee snob.

Thanks!

The regular, brewed coffee is free, and not very good, IMHO. I'm a coffee snob as well. If you want good coffee, your choices are pay for the good stuff down at Cove Café or find a way to make your own. Next time that's an issue for me, I'm going to try bringing a French press and my own coffee and use the hot water for tea at the beverage station to make my own coffee.

I have an add on question to this. Is there anywhere for teens to get their own specialty coffees? I know we can order to go for them at the cove and take it out, but is there anywhere they can buy without a parent?

On the Dream/Fantasy there is a little cafe on one of the main decks called Vista Cafe and anyone can order there (they also have pastries etc that don't cost anything). On Magic/Wonder - I don't think there is a specialty coffee location other than Cove ... but I'm not certain.

Correct.

What time does the Vista Cafe (Dream) open? Would love to get an early run in then stop there for a latte. Could be as early as 6:30am ... are they open?

Well, I tried to post a picture, but it didn't work.

Vista Cafe 7:00am - 10:30pm

We always take Starbucks Via with us to fill in between special/fee cups of coffee. It is better than the tap coffee and primes the pump for the day's activities before we get to the better stuff topside. Just a suggestion...

Looking at recent navigators posted at disneycruiselineblog.com, it appears as if the Vista Cafe opens at 7 am most days.

I believe there is a new coffe bar inside the reimagined Vibe (teen club). Not sure of its hours or offerings though.

The coffee is terrible! Why?! To be honest, I didn't even find the espresso drinks available for purchase to be all that great when they didn't have alcohol in them. :upsidedow I ended up just having Diet Coke in the mornings in an attempt to avoid caffeine withdrawal. I've seen people say in other threads that they've packed a french press, which has me considering bringing an aeropress on our next cruise. Starbucks VIA gets mentioned a lot as well.

Thanks all. Is there hot water readily available if I opt to go the Starbucks or French press route?

On the Magic and Wonder, the Promenade Lounge, which is open to everyone, may have coffee drinks. I know I've ordered tea there, but I'm not sure about coffee.

The beverage station on the pool deck has hot water. You can also order hot water from Room Service to be delivered whenever you'd like in the morning (or at any other time).

Just adding the cost for the specialty coffees was pretty reasonable--$3 for a cappuccino--so more like normal back-home prices rather than Disneyfied pricing. And nothing screams "Disney Cruise" like seeing a mickey imprinted in a pattern on the cappuccino foam :)

Pray tell, what is the punch card advice please? :D :D

The cafes with specialty coffee give out a stamp card, it is something like buy 5 drinks get the 6th one free.
