When I first moved down here we werewaiting to watch the fireworks at the polynesian and something bit me. The next morning I woke up and my foot was hot to the touch, very swollen and painful. I had to get antibiotics for a skin infection. Figured it came from the bug but thought maybe there was another source....

Last night (again at dusk) we went outside to see a rocket blast off (or there was supposed to be one... we never saw anything) while waiting there were swarming, flying insects. One landed on the back of my forearm and bit, I thought it was a mosquito and swatted it away. By the time we walked back to our house my arm was huge and hot. Went to the doctor today for the bite since I developed a fever and I can't touch the thing its so tender and stiff. I told her look I had this reaction before from a bug bite down here... she told me its definitely not a reaction its an infection.... put me on some monster antibiotics every 6 hours and was wondering what it is doing this to me and causing an infection SO fast.

I'm thinking yellow flies maybe...but I can't find enough info online about the situation. Anyone ever have anything similar happen? Or am I just a freak of nature??

For me its always been at dusk so I've never been able to see the bug, I'm only sure that the bugs were flying.

That sounds awful! I don't have the same reaction as you, but I'm in Florida right now and at dusk the "no see ems" bugs are terrible. They leave red welts on my skin. I've been told my body should adapt eventually. Hope so. I'm itching like mad! Last night a neighbor came over with a pricy bottle of wine and wanted to drink it outside side for the sunset. Good wine, nice sunset, bad bugs. I'm bitten up pretty badly today.

Yellow flies can be bad at dusk. Did it hurt bad when he bit you? those darn yellow flies hurt like the devil.

Gotta love Florida, been her 47 years. Still hate bugs.

Sounds like cellulitis. My daughter gets it from bug bites. Its not from the bug or the bite itself, its from the bacteria on the skin and under the nails. When you scratch the bacteria gets into the cut causing the infection. She had to be on some massive antibiotics until we figured out how to deal it with. If it is buggy, she doesnt go out without bug spray but whenever she gets a bite, first she takes a Benadryl, Then we wash it with some soap and water. Then we draw a circle around the bite. we then add some neosporin. We watch it until it goes away, if the bite swells overs the circle or gets bigger than a quarter she needs the antibiotics.
