Stunned Silence, how would have handled this?

Obviously she's the type that thinks she's better than everybody else. That has to be one of the RUDEST comments I have ever heard of. I personally would not want to be friends with somebody like that. It definitely sounds like that's not the 1st or last time she puts her foot in her mouth. But I bet she was serious and doesn't even realize what an idiot she is.

I have an idea...Tell her you have changed your mind and decided to book a couple rooms at the Grand Floridian instead.

Well, I have to say I am often stunned into silence by people. Does this friend have any background - to know anything about what she's saying?

I think in this case I would've said "what do you mean, no Disney World trip is cheap!" and asked her to explain herself. Then I would explain my point of view (as you did here, more nice meals, you'd only be there to sleep) etc. Different things are important to different people. As your "friend" she should respect your choices. And, that WAS a really rude comment!

I see this attitude more and more. "If you can't do it all the way, don't do it at all."

This is why the country has the amount of consumer debt that we do.

In my family, we're not perfect. We have our share of debt. However, we probably have more fun "doing it on the cheap" as people who pay top dollar to impress others.

So, you'll see me at an affordable resort, with my Target sneakers, having a ball!!!

Well said! ITA! I think I have more fun, because I like to brag about how much fun I had on how little (relatively!) money!

I think saying nothing was correct, anything you said wouldn't have effected her at all, someone that dense wouldn't have comprehended.

There is no where at WDW I wouldn't love staying at, even a broom closet. My first stay at Pop is in a few days...can't wait. As you can see from my signature I have stayed in many WDW Resorts while Wilderness Lodge is my favorite, I will stay in value or moderates if it means I can get an extra trip.

Wow. That wasn't very nice of her.

There is nothing wrong with PC. It's brand new, has nice pools, a nice dining area and gift shop.

We want to stay there but can't this trip.

Enjoy your trip!:sunny:

I agree with the other's, this was very rude, trust me I understand how you feel as I just went through a terrible thing with the planning of my trip. I think you handled the situation very well. People can be amazing at times.

Enjoy your trip. :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE print off this thread and mail it to her!

<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_2_102.gif' border=0></a>

You could just email her a link but a printed list of how stupid and rude people think she is would be better.

Wow! Does she think that everyone stays in the Grand Floridian or Contemporary? Who does she think is filling up the THOUSANDS of rooms in the Orlando area?

I totally agree about saving where ever possible on rooms - as long as the sheets are clean and there's a shower, that's good enough for us.

Silence was a great response. Sounds to me like someone is jealous. You don't have to justify your choices of accommodations or plans or money spent to anyone. If it works for you and makes you all happy, then do it. I wouldn't even discuss your vacation with her again unless you want to set her straight and answer her rude question.

Sorry you were made to feel so stunned.

Have a wonderful time :)

Um - You did exactly the right thing. My big mouth would have said, how do you know how much I can or can not afford. I happen to be able to afford to drive a Mercedes and live in a MacMansion, but I choose to live reasonably and have a damn good time doing it and not spend all day lifting my nose to everyone I meet.

I would have said "My goodness, what a rude, condescending comment" and left it at that. I certainly would have felt no compunction to explain about how we're not in the room much etc.

My response would have been along the lines of....:

When I close my eyes at night, my Pop Century room looks just like the Grand Floridian

:smooth:

I don't know about you, but, I don't think any WDW vacation is "cheap".... even if you stay off-site, it can still be expensive.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it, I probably would have reacted the same way. Maybe she is jealous.

I think Mercy hit the nail on the head!! She probably is jealous because she is not going!

Personally, I would rather go to WDW 10 times and stay in a value resort than only go once and stay in the most expensive room. This year will be our second trip staying at a value resort and we are happy as clams just to be going!

You are a better person that I am! You did the right thing by being silent. I, on the other hand would have said something very unladylike!

LOL I'm always amazed at what some people say!!

I actually heard this recently about our stay at All Stars coming up in April..the conversation, as well as I can remember it is below.

"where are you staying?"

"all stars for the first 6 nights, then to Hampon Inn LBV for the next 6 nights"

"why waste your time going if your staying in a regular hotel room, the "purpose" of disney is the elaborate resort type hotels".....

"well, I look at it this way, I'm going to WDW for the parks, not for the elaborate hotel. If I was doing more than just sleeping in our hotel I might spend upwards of $300.00 per night, however when you consider I got my room for 6 nights for what some rooms cost for 2 nights, I think you'll see the point"

"well, I would NEVER stay at a value...thats just....cheap"

"and this is why you and I never go on vacation together.."

I just laughed it off, and figured, people like this are not part of my close circle of friends they are more aquantiances...and I dont consider there thoughts to have much bearing on me.

Before I type the rude response to her let me just clarify that I have no problem with staying in fancy hotels - I just thought of a response that is equally rude. Next time she goes and stays in a fancy place- say "people are starving, how can you live with yourself spending that much money".

I think my first response to her would have been "Excuse me?"

My reply to your friend? "Don't be silly. You know everything connected with Disney is FABULOUS!!!!!!"

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I'd be speechless too...how are you even acquainted with this person?

Sounds like jealousy and she just wanted to rain venom on your parade.
