Stuff to do in Vegas on a budget

I talked my husband into joining me for my seminar in Vegas for three nights. It's kind of a big deal because we haven't had a trip alone in three years. Even though much of our time will be taken up by the seminar, we'll have three evenings to have fun and hang out together. BUT we don't want to spend a lot of money. We'd rather save our money for family trips. So what can we do on a reasonable budget--doesn't have to be just free stuff.

We've been to Vegas enough in the past that we don't want to tour the casinos and see the free shows. Been there and done that. Although we probably will check out the newer hotel/casinos.

What's a good buffet these days? DH really likes a good buffet. We're not seafood eaters. Other good restaurants?

How about a reasonable...ish show?

If we do gamble a little, where would you choose? We're staying at Monte Carlo where the seminar is. I used to like to go to Bellagio because they had the best "free" drinks. I also liked Excalibur because they had more lower limit slot choices...but it's been a long time. How about any $2 blackjack? Still possible there? Not looking to go downtown.

Thanks for ideas!

You can get cheap tickets to shows sometimes the day of if they have a bunch of seats left.

We went a few years ago and found this old Italian place off the strip. The food was great and the service was fabulous. They will even send a limo for you for free (you have to tip the driver) to go get you and then take you back afterwards. The limo isn't a luxury one---but none the less nice and free. http://www.casadiamore.com

We ate at a few buffets and thought the one at the Mirage was the best. There's also a California Pizza Kitchen there in the mirage that you can get carry out on and eat somewhere else if you were looking for a cheap meal. You can also take a taxi to the old strip--it will probably cost you $40 each way or so though. That is fun and you can find the $.99 shrimp cocktail and such there. It does bring out some interesting folks as it gets later at night, so just a heads up.

The cheapest blackjack on the strip that I've seen in the last few years is $5 at Excalibur. I've read NYNY too, but never seen it. They have $3 at Hooters, not sure if it's limited hours. There's lots of multi-denomination video blackjack now, but the low limit tables are disappearing. I haven't been to O'Sheas since it was absorbed, but they used to have low limit tables too.

Honestly, the best deals in Vegas are off the strip. DH and I love to eat at the Silverton Casino Buffet. Great food, reasonable price. We gamble at Station casinos because they are local casinos and pay back better. Vegas knows they have you when you stay on the strip. The casinos on the ends will be better deals than those in the middle. Good luck!

Not a buffet, but if there's still a Hash House-a-Go-Go at The Linq, you get an amazing amount of good food for a very reasonable price. If you do decide to go downtown, take the bus. The zip line probably isn't overly cheap, but it's probably different and sounds like fun.

Check Groupon and LivingSocial for Las Vegas for upcoming event specials. And if there's something you want to see, just always ask about a discount.
