can I put things like new a boxed router, boxed cereals, crackers, bottles of wine in my checked bags without having a problem getting through bag check?
would it be to late to send those ahead so how to SSR, we will be arriving Sunday
They are allowed but I would consider how "wise" it would be to risk it. Remember that you can't lock your bags except with a TSA approved lock so anyone from baggage handlers to the TSA can open it. My bags are searched about 1/3 the time I fly as indicated by my zip ties missing and the note inside.
The cereal will be fine but a router and or bottle of wine would be IMHO and invitation for theft. If you must bring the router carry it on but you can't bring liquids or gels onboard so you will need to find another way to transport the wine or purchase it at your destination.
I hate when I think of this while traveling since I place all my gifts in my luggage. I have yet to loose something in my luggage but I also place a list in my luggage of all contents and carry one with me. This was suggested to me by a friend who travels alot and was getting stuff stolen on a regular basis.
1. Put bottle in ziplock bag. Seal.
2. Put zip lock in another. Seal.
3. If you have a plastic dry cleaning bag or laundry bag from hotel wrap the mess in that.
4. Wrap the thing in something you can live with being destroyed. (beach towels work well, I used black clothes last time)
4. Pack WELL padded in the CENTER of a FULL suitcase. (Extra room where things can bang and shift is the enemy here)

I agree with the others, pack the cereal, carry the router, buy the wine there. If that bottle breaks and ruins your stuff it's going to cost a lot more to replace it than the $2-3 per bottle that WDW charges over what you might pay at home.
I'm pretty sure that the router would not make it past TSA to be carried on. Several power tools are on the prohibited list, and though routers are not specifically mentioned, I'm guessing a router would fall afoul of the "tools greater than 7 inches" prohibition. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#6
Shipping it ahead would be your best bet. If it's a gift for someone who lives there, perhaps it would be best to return it and buy one from an internet dealer that will ship for free.
I carry all kinds of 'stuff' in my carry on for work every week including a router, portable hard drive, various cables, etc. Nobody has ever batted any eye at any of it.
Nor do I think that leaving the router inside a checked bag is an invitation to theft. They can be bought for under $60 these days
DH and I pack wine in our checked bags each time we visit WDW and we've never had a problem. We've discovered that sneaker/boot boxes are the perfect size for packing, and with bubble wrap or other soft packing material, there hasn't been any breakage. (We do wrap the packed box in a plastic bag, just in case........). We then pack the box(es) in the middle of soft "stuff", within a framed piece of luggage (duffles won't work ).
When TSA changed the rules re: liquids (we used to take the wine in carry-ons), it was the TSA people at our airport who suggested we put it in checked bags. (Also, our local shipping places wouldn't ship the wine )
I know we can buy wine in WDW, but we prefer certain brands that WDW doesn't offer (and we sure like the prices at home ).
the router was to use on the computers this family carries with on trips that way we can all hook up we just have not traveled by plane before. Sorry for any confusion it caused.
