Studio's at the DVC resorts?

How many have you had stay in a DVC studio?

  • I would never!

  • Only the 4 over age 2 allowed

  • 5 all over age 3

  • 6 or more all over age 3

When we bought DVC we thought we would always stay in a studio. Haven't yet, but will next year. We will still only have 4 people though.

The 4 of us - DW, 2 DS's and me have stayed in a studio and also in an AKL Savannah Deluxe room as well (roughly size similar) - it works ok - we use this strategy when we want to stretch our points for more vacation nights!

Having said that what we really miss is the full kitchen (as opposed to having 2 rooms)

One more thing you need to look at - some families get along better than others.

If you family get along great - then a studio will do fine.

if they don't and you need more room so everyone is not in the others territory - then even a 1-bedroom might not be big enough.

I've actually only had three adults in a studio and swore I wouldn't do that again for any considerable amount of time either. It's just too crowded.

I would never consider breaking the rules by trying to cram more than four of any breathing thing in the room as it would be unbearably uncomfortable, not to mention unethical.

This poll seems to indicate that very few people "break the rules." It actually seems that, if anything, people who are allowed to book a studio do not because they like the extra room. It definitely seems to make the whole "occupancy issue" seem less important. Time to worry about more important things.

I jokingly posted 6 (didn't read the OP closely).

I think if you manage things carefully you could manage 4 in a studio if at least two are of an age they can find a public bathroom if the need arises. Will things be cramped? Maybe...the key is to make use of the public spaces that are so generously available to you. You don't have to go to the parks and then hole up in the room afterwards...there are quite lovely living and recreational rooms in the various resorts.

6 in a studio would seem unreasonable to me. 5 would be doable provided at least 2 are under the age of 10. Doable does not mean should do able...this is a generic comment with regard to the size of the room and not the room occupancy limits.

The most I've had in a studio? One. Will be doing 2 in a 1 bedroom next week.

Well before we were members, we got a great rate for a BWV studio Plus (sleeps 5+1 under 3)! Back then you could reserve them separate from a standard studio (sleeps 4+1 under 3). In there (legally I might add) we had 4 adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year old (my family and my husbands parents), so there were 6 of us including the 1 year old. We were all comfortable in there, but we all get along great. I would not recommend it for people who don't. There is nowhere to hide or get away. I will say that now that we are members we have had the luxury of staying in the 1 bedroom and larger units, and we are more comfortable with those now that we can afford them. We book whatever unit we can afford and all fit in depending on who if anyone is coming along. We have not stayed in a studio since then, but we will for part of our May trip (just the 4 of us) to conserve points for a big family vacation in 2006 with my husbands parent, siblings and their children.

We booked a studio and requested a daybed since we were a family of 5 at that time. We didn't get the daybed, so the 3 kids (8, 6, 4) slept in the sofa bed. We didn't think it was too crowded although there wasn't a whole lot of space for our luggage.

This poll should put a new light on the occupancy issue. Read the poll results carefully and you will find that more than 1 in 6 DIS DVC'ers who answered the poll and stay in studios have crammed more than 4 persons over 3 yo into a studio. I wouldn't call that isolated or a small proportion who go over the occupancy limits, as has been suggested in many other threads. Very interesting poll.

My dd, 11, dh and myself stayed in a studio in August. THat's what we based our point buying on. Well..dh used the sofa bed and dd and I shared the big bed. THis due to dh's snoring. We had plenty of room and it would have been just about perfect for us except the sofa bed wasn't far enough away from the bed!!!! So, we'll be using a 1 bdrm in two weeks. He gets the sofa bed again, dd and I have the master bedroom!!!

I'm planning a trip in a year or so, with a gf and her dd. We'll be getting a two bdrm unit. Dd and I will have the one bdrm and gf and her dd will use the studio area.

I've stayed in a 1bd with 3 and 3 studios with 3 and although i'd love to use the 1bd all the time points wise it's not possible we have always found the studio to have plenty of space for me , dh and ds and will continue to book studios in the future, i'd rather have a longer stay in a studio than a short one in 1 bd and that makes more sense for us flying in from the UK, sometimes we split and have 1bd for a week then change resort and go into a studio. whichever we always have a great time and they are always bigger than standard hotel rooms !
