Studio's and IOA in one day?

We are going Oct. 22nd. and have never been to Universal. I am trying to make a schedule. The three children are between the ages of 9 and 5. We plan on spending most of our time at MK and MGM. Is there enough time in the day to visit both parks in one day, or should we allocate more time?

Since you're going on a Sunday and it's not really busy then, you should be fine seeing both parks...assuming the kids won't want to ride the big coasters at IOA. Keep in mind Universal will close at 5pm that day since HHN is going on but IOA will be open until 7pm.

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. We are going to DW on the 22nd, but staying until the 27th. I plan on going either on Tuesday or Wednesday. I don't think the have the halloween thing those nights.

Nope..no halloween thing those nights.
Tuesday or Wednesday would be fine for visiting the parks.

October 6-8, 11-15, 19-22, 26-29 & 31

It' looks like your clear for the 24th or 25th. I think you may be able to do 2 parks but it all depends on how many rides you want to do and how fast your family moves

. We usually go in slow mode

so we do 1 park a day and then on the last day we will just go back to rides/shows we want to do again in both parks. Maybe you could do a printout of the rides in both parks and show the kids and see what interests them and what freaks them out

. Try not to miss Spiderman though it is IMHO the best ride at Universal.

You may want to consider staying a night at one of the Universal Hotels. It gives you FOTL priviledges for all attractions. We do this everytime we visit the land of the mouse and the combination of going during a less crowded time of year and having the FOTL, we can do both parks in a single day no problem.

We are being given free passes, for that one day, so....if we get there right at opening, and plan to leave around 4ish, is there anything special we should do first? I sound like a WDW newbie here...but we've never done Universal before and have only the one day. In fact, my dd, 13 , isn't even looking forward to it. She justs wants to stay at WDW, guess the brainwashing worked for her!!
But, is there a particular way I should attack this park? Are there going to be huge numbers of people in there on a Sunday with the special halloween party that night? Thanks for any insights.

My advice would be to blow off the day at MGM and add an extra day at Universal. In my opinion MGM does not compare at all to the Universal parks. I think you would have a much better time with more days at U, I mean what's at MGM anyway TOT and Aerosmith? Thats all I can think of. There are tons of better things at U.

Do you have passes for both parks?? If so, you will have to skim through it quickly

if you want to leave by 4pm. The Halloween Horror nights

is in Universal Studiios this year and starts at 6:30pm, it's a seperate ticket event. This is much more intense then Disneys MNSSHP

, but since you don't have tickets for that (check to see what tickets you have) it won't effect you. The other park at Universal, Island of Adventure (IOA) will be open till 6 or 7 pm. IOA is not hosting the Halloween Horror Nights this year so it will be opened a little later. According to the calender both parks open at 9am. As far as things you should do, that depends on your family, personally in US (Universal Studios) I like Revenge of the Mummy,Men in Black (kind of like Buzz Lightyear Space Rangers Spin), ET, Jimmy Neutron, Jaws and Shrek 4D (movie). In IOA love Spiderman (the best), Popeye & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barge (you will get wet), Jurrassic Park, Cat in the Hat and my kids love the coasters Incredible Hulk and Dueling Dragons. My kids hated Universal at first but now they love it, so give a chance.

I believe we only have passes for Universal not IoA. So, it will only be one park. Since a friend of the other mom that's traveling with me is giving us these passes, I have no idea as to what they cover. Assuming it's just Universal itself. Thanks for the recommendations as to attractions. I hate not knowing anything about the park I'll be in...way to spoiled by my many trips to WDW.

Sunday is fine, light crowds in the morning. The attack plan I tell everyone is to arrive early. The parking garage opens at 8am. So leave your Disney hotel at 07:30am. I realize people are on vacation and would rather sleep in, but showing up at 8am really pays off.

You won't really need an attack plan. As you enter the park, you'll see Jimmy Neutron, and Shrek 4d. You midas well go on Shrek, then keep walking to the back of the park where you'll find The Mummy. Ride it a few times, then you can head to the other side of the park for MIB. After that you'd continue past BTTF and ride ET.
