Studio Question

We are thinking of joining the DVC and are trying to figure out where to call home and how many points to buy. Does anyone know how a studio at BLT, BCV and BWV compare to a regular room at the BWI? I am looking for size differences if any.

Studio at BCV and BWV is close to size of BWI room -- they are all in the 360 range although some rooms at BWI may get up to 370. Studio at BLT is smaller by a very noticeable amount (about 345 sg ft). Decor is different, you have more plushness at Inn room and the studios have queen plus couch pull-out full whereas BWI room has two queens.

Studios at BLt are the smallest rooms of any I have ever stayed in at any hotel. The location can not be beat, but the size of the room is small!

If you're looking to just stay in studios with DVC then I don't think you should buy, you just continue staying in regular hotel rooms, and pay the money for a little bigger room and a refrigerator and microwave, the difference is when you start staying in a larger unit like a 1 bedroom and abovem that's when you realize the benefits of DVC.

You need to visit the DVC models at SSR, BLT, and BWV before you buy resale.

I totally agree with this comment. IF you are basically only planning in staying in studios, there is no real benefit to DVC. The real benefit is for having the amenities of the 1,2 and 3 bedroom units.

i disagree on the studios. when I did my break-even analysis it was DVC vs. moderate room. With a good resale price, you can still break even in about 8 years. And a person can always start small and add on later when they can afford one-bedrooms. With the way resale prices have been going, those add-ons will be cheaper in the future.

There are many benefits for purchasing a dvc and using studios. We have enough points for two weeks in a studio a year. our annual dues are only 750. That will give us about 12 nights in a delux room. (which during the times we go would run us at least 200 a night at those resorts or 2400) plus we save 100 per person or 300 on our annual pass. This give us an annual savings of 2,000. we only paid 8000 for our contract (resale) so in 4 years we break even. plus we had enough points that were banked that we had a couple nights in a 2 bedroom at jambo so I view that as an "extra".
We will purchase additional points later so we can do the multi bedroom rooms, but for now a studio is perfect for us

Actually the best dollar savings is the studio compared to deluxe hotel rooms, second best is a 2 BR compared to 2 hotel rooms. The worst savings from a dollar standpoint are the 1 & 3 BR units, esp the 1 BR. Then one gets into the other subjective and intangible benefits with some units and the vague value of a full kitchen which it seems many DVC members don't really take advantage of, ourselves included and the W/D. I label savings as what you would have spent on accommodations for the same trip non DVC and value as what you get extra due to the DVC stay.

BLT studio doesn't sound like it would be too much smaller, but they used a lot of space putting in the "cool" slider bathroom door. So the bathroom is larger than most studios (except maybe OKW). That doesn't leave a lot of space for the room.

When non-member talk about booking a studio vs booking a standard hotel room, I advise them to go with the standard hotel room because you get two real queen beds and possibly a day bed (BC, CR) versus one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa.
