I just got a Nikon D200 with the 18-200mm VR lens and need to get some studio lights for portrait photography.

Not sure what to buy as I've never used studio lights before. Any help would be appreciated.

While I don't have any, I have heard very positive things about the Alien Bees mentioned above.

I echo the vote for the Alien Bees too!! I have got two of the AB800 and a medium softbox and they work very nicely. Their white levels are just about perfect and they will slave trigger so you only need to trigger one flash and the others will take care of themselves without any additional cables or remotes.

yup - definitely a :thumbsup2 on alienbees. i also like elimchrom - especially if you're looking for something portable.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking into Alien Bees.

Thanks again, this is a great help!!

Another option would be to use speedlights. With two or three of these versitile strobes you can light a lot of subjects.

Check out Strobist for a LOT of great information and inspiration!!
